So I have been torn over this for a while, I have a large collection of unboxed amiibo some rare that are just gathering dust, should I hang on to them because they are something that makes me smile when I do get them out or sell them.
I have no idea how much the value of amiibo have increased/ decreased over the years.

Just look at eBay to get a bases to start your pricing. Some are Scalping prices but if you just look there you can get a overview of the prices. If I was you the collection is far more value not sold unless you have more the one of the same Amiibos. So look at the eBay amiibos you have and do a spreadsheet and you can see what you can get from all the sales to better determine is it worth selling them or not.
If your financial situation is that bad, then yes, go ahead and sell them. You can always buy the same ones later when you have money again. But otherwise, don't, because you clearly like them. Also, do not look up how much they are worth. Doing so could make you feel like you have to sell them
@thepeterwright
As everyone has stated, don't sell. Something that makes you happy should not be something you get rid of. I have a huge amount of amiibo that totals up to plenty of cash, but I love them and wouldn't sell them for the world. Don't look up prices on ebay either, as it may force you to want to sell them.

I do stupid stuff on youtube.com/mysticbros, so check it out if your bored or whatever.
Or don't, it's your time after all.
If you go that route you have to ask yourself will I be able to buy them back for the eBay prices? I know if you have the complete series of each set open or unopened they have a bigger value then being sold. I myself have completed all the series except the new one and not the Cubby that cost way to much because of someone personal vendetta on raising Import Tax.
@thepeterwright I would not because it is my personal collection, but if you are the type to collect and sell things... I would still say to wait. The ones that are rare now are only going to get rarer, especially those anniversary ones they did, that absolutely wont see a re-release.

I'm going to sell half of my collection and keep the nice ones and those that I got as a present. Then I'm going to buy an Amiibo powersave.
And if those Hacks work then good but if they fail you'll be buying them over and over. Not a good investment. Keeping the nice ones is that about ludicrous of a statement I've seen.
Even if it's not a rare Amiibo once they stop making it the prices will jump it never goes down. As the release of SSB Switch is probably the last time alot of Amiibos will be re-introduced.
Most of mine are unboxed but no I intend to hang onto and keep using mine. Perhaps when i am old and decluttering my house I would sell. Toy listings prove that value can be kept even unboxed if one takes care of the product. But I buy my collection for myself and my enjoyment. If I had planned on being a scalper (I would never) I would have bought 2 of everything from the start.

I am in a similar quandary myself, so much moneys worth of plastic. I really do like all of my amiibo but am selling in order to fund a 'once in a live time' family holiday.
So I would say that if you are just going to sell and then fritter the money on things that maybe don't do something for you then I wouldn't bother. But if you are going to replace them for something worthwhile then maybe that makes it worthwhile.
OP hasn't posted here for 4 years. Speaks volumes and serves as evidence for one of my theories. This hobby of ours is kinda consuming. If you ever break the cycle and start selling things off, I think it breaks your connection to the hobby, for some people at least.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
