Topic: Gave away a Mario and Luigi amiibo for white elephant gift exchange, basically got laughed at

I had a Mario and Luigi amiibo still boxed up (was planning on saving them for years). I gave them away during a Christmas party and the dude who got them's reaction was "what am I supposed to do with these. I ended up getting a water bottle with an Air Force logo on it (lame as ****).

Overall I found out most people who aren't into Nintendo don't like it. I thought it was a cool gift though. These fools just don't know.

I would've laughed, too. Are you sure they even had anything they could use 'em with? I mean, a Mario & Luigi bobblehead set might've made a bit more sense otherwise...

Nope. Didn't think they were something people would actually consider "using". I think of it more like something you use for display or you could regift them and give them to someone.

@Rexcalibr I thought it was a nice gift and I would have done backflips had I gotten an amiibo at a Christmas party white elephant exchange. Some people are just ungrateful and cant appreciate the awesomeness that is Nintendo.

Anyways, @Rexcalibr, I'm glad they at least had the guts to tell you what they felt. A lot of other people would've compained about it behind your back instead of offering direct feedback.

I dunno what else to say, seeing as I can barely comprehend the mentality people have when they give gifts that aren't explicitly asked for. In fact, this Xmas is the first year that I've had to do it, and only because I feel guilty for having nothing to offer my family for...the 5th year in a row, due to spending every penny I have on myself.

I guess you're supposed to give people stuff that shows you care about them - something that implies you've been paying attention to their lives, interests, and recent goings-ons. Things that they might've wanted or needed. And maybe also something something that shows a direct connection to yourself and your relationship with them. Now, I don't exactly know anything about your buddies, so I won't jump to conclusions. However, I do think that if I were in your shoes, I wouldn't be going on a forum gawking at how someone refused a present that I already knew they wouldn't be able to use the way the product was originally intended - I would be asking myself what I could've got for them instead.

It's a white elephant christmas game, which means everyone brings a present and you draw numbers and pick one randomly so you don't know what you're going to get. The guy who got the amiibo actually said he owns a Wii U but I guess he's not big into gaming because he didn't know what they were lol

@CanisWolfred for once i was being serious! I have over 60 amiibo and would love to have more...despite already having mario and luigi - i would love to have some duplicates in my collection!

@Rexcalibr - Ah, fair enough. I thought it was secret santa-type deal. Guess it is a bit silly to complain about a lotto gift he willingly participated in, though it sounds like his statement might've been more literal than I first thought.

I feel this is something we could discuss in the chit chat topic. Or maybe even the Amiibo topic.

Now, I really don't want you to feel like I have anything agaisnt you or your threads... It's just that they usually seem to be more like blog entries; small opinions and thought trains that could be stated in an existing thread.

That's a shame, although I guess with it being random like that, a lot of people could end up with stuff they don't really appreciate
