Hello, everyone!
I want to ask you whether one amiibo can be used for Nintendo Wii U and 3DS or it can be used only for one of both. Thanks in advance. =)
Yes an Amiibo can be used on both the Wii U and 3DS. But you can only have one piece of save data on one figure at one time.
So if you have a Yarn Yoshi with Yoshi's Woolly World data saved to it and then wanted to save Mario Tennis data to it. You have to overwrite the Woolly World data.
But reading the Amiibo ID doesn't effect the data on the Amiibo.
The only thing to note is that some games write data to the amiibo (for example, Smash Bros. and Mario Party 10 store custom character data) while most games just read the amiibo (meaning you just tap the amiibo to unlock a little bonus, you don't save any data to it). You can only store data for one game at a time, but you can use your figure across a bunch of different games that just read the amiibo.
With Sonic, for instance, you can store a amiibo fighter profile on him for use in either version of Smash Bros. (Wii U/3DS), and then tap him in Mario Kart 8, Super Mario Maker, Hyrule Warriors, etc. to unlock bonus content. Hope that helps out.
EDIT: Sorry if that's redundant — me and @GauBan were typing at the same time.
Our lad was bought Super Mario Mario and Super Mario Bowser for christmas, he tells us that these can only be used in Super Mario games (as that's what it says on the packaging), is this so, does anyone know if they can be used on other games such as Super Smash Bros ?
Find the amiibo and ya can see what amiibo can be used by which game, light green means ya can scan the amiibo to unlock something in the game while dark green means ya can scan them and have a save file on the amiibo. For example in Super Mario Maker, you can use your Mario amiibo to unlock a outfit while in Smash Bros you can train it and save it's progress (however if you used it on a different game like Mario party the smash bros save file gets overwritten), Mario and Bowser can be used in most games that use amiibo at the moment.
@Torakaka: Yes you can. Amiibos are not region locked, so Japanese amiibo will function exactly the same as EU/US versions. I've used my Japan Zelda and US Silver Mario with my EU Wii U without any problems.
Well, this thread just answered all my questions...such as only needing one mario for all the games, instead of all the "remakes" in different forms. Not that I will not pick them up at some point, but I am just starting to collect them, and I am wanting to get the ones that can be used on the most games first, which include most of the Mario group...but only need one of each character. THANKS for this!!
