I can't see myself buying a lot of these (I'd be so broke if I did). I'll probably get a few. Even if I don't use them, they're very nicely detailed and would look good on the shelf.
I think it's got the right balance: not something essential to play the game like Skylanders, but something that enhances the game. Less "collect them all" than "get your favourites" so Nintendo is clearly not wanting to abuse their fans but give them something fun. The Smash Bros. use seems quite good because it's something weaker players can use to give an assist.
Well for Smash, the leveling up seems like something I'm going to get addicted to. So I'll at the least have to get two so they can battle each other and gain experience.
I like how they will be used with different games but I hope they also come with an app so you can mess with them in some sort of sandbox. These will be my first figurines since I had no interest in skylanders or disney infinity.
I feel like this is something that could take off, but Nintendo HAS to advertise it right. Sell it as putting your toys in your game, and training them to fight your friends. But if they just make it seem like the figures appear as computer characters in your game, it will bomb
The figures do look of high quality...a few I want just as figures.
Not sold on the game functionality being anything much...seems like shoe horned unnecessary feature.
I was thinking they would have an entire game built around the figures and have the other games just have some enhanced functionallity.
Leveling up Smash Bros. Characters seems to be a weird concept....I guess since you can likely just pick the character from the game instead of touching the figure means they have to add something for the figures to do. I could understand storing your records and customized controller setups and stuff but increasing stats?
Just like with DLC, if Nintendo can do this the right way, then it has potential.
They have not done DLC the right way yet.
The best part of the way the others do it was the GOTY editions.
So, the best way to do DLC is to hold features out of a game for DLC along with slapping features on disc as DLC then wait for a GOTY edition to get it?
No, thanks. Nintendo does DLC right. They give you a full game with DLC only enhancing the experience.
Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
Now playing:
Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)
It's already been compared to DLC so I think that about sums it up. It could be an incredible game changer or it could be a shameful disgrace and an excuse to take parent's money come christmas. It's too early to tell.
My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.
