Topic: Why isn't Nintendo releasing new 3DS Virtual Console games?

I guess I should re-instate my answer from page one. I guess nintendo is working on some new great indie games for the NEW 3DS system...don't know if they're exclusive to just the New one or both, but that should help it pick up some more...plus...maybe since the New 3DS is a little better running, maybe we'll get some Super NES games on it! I could stand to play Super Mario World or maybe even Donkey Kong Country on it, or maybe they're just waiting for the next handheld...which is probably getting close to being made by now.

They like small amounts of money for very little. See Amiibo.

Technically, they haven't been releasing much of anything on the 3DS...just an indie game here and there. Other than that, nintendo is acting like they have no good nes games to release...what about the few that many fans have been asking for...like The Goonies 2 or Ducktales 2...or how about some other goodies that could help nintendo start making some sequals of remakes of...Startropics, Faxanandu or even re-releasing Dragon Warrior or the Wizards and Warriors. I'd even like them to re-release A Nightmare On Elm Street, Adventures of Bayou Billy or Little Nemo.

Wait are you serious? If it's a licensed product you shouldn't be begging Nintendo. Just because a game showed up on NES doesn't mean Nintendo can just whip it out for everyone when they want. You want DuckTales 2 or Little Nemo, go ask Capcom. Dragon Warrior is Enix, Wizards & Warriors is Rare, Bayou Billy is Konami, so you're really barking in the wrong direction here, it's the third parties you're specifically after.

Capcom (Or anybody) cannot do anything when it comes to Disney licensed stuff. Disney won't allow it period (Other than remakes).

No idea if the same policy applies to Lucasarts now Disney owns them (I presumed it would but they have just added the X-Wing games to Steam so maybe it doesn't).

I'm sure if you bother Capcom about DuckTales they'd be able to at least get the ball rolling in terms of getting Disney on board again.
No holding your breath though. Chances are slimmer than slim since the original DT2 cart is rather obscure as it is and they put DuckTales HD on sale so often, packaged versions are basically all gone, I'd love to know how it sold. If it was decent or not.

Also come to think of it, if they do release DuckTales 2, it'll probably be on WiiU not 3DS. I just realized this is the 3DS thread not WiiU lol...

LucasArts is frozen. They canceled basically every game they were doing in 2011 and released Kinect Star Wars in 2012 which was a disaster, then did Angry Birds Star Wars with Rovio (or just made them do all the work) and now they're silent. Not defunct but not doing anything at all. Disney is controlling the Star Wars app games and online.
They've got 10 employees I doubt much of anything will be happening for the momento.

You want to blunt and honest truth? Because it's Nintendo and the tend to make illogical decisions that quite frankly make no sense.

Case in point?

We still have not gotten Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow or Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal in over 4 years of the Nintendo 3DS eshop being up, despite the potental that those games would make tons of money for Nintendo and would likely be some of the top games on the eshop.

Where is Startropics I and II? Where is Wave Race? There are still numerous Nintendo published games on the NES and Game Boy that have yet to make an apperance.

I honestly don't get why Nintendo has allowed the Virtual Console service to rot, especially on the 3DS. The backlog of Nintendo systems is one of the major advantages Nintendo has over Sony and Microsoft. They should be actively getting third-party games onto the service and putting their backlog onto the service as well. But in recent years, the Virtual Console has become more and more of an an afterthought.

I honestly don't get it. What happened to the virtual console? Its such a cool idea and a nice way for Nintendo to make money off old games.

Why do they refuse to support it like they did in the early days of the Wii?

Because they wouldn't have multiplayer so the Pokédex wouldn't be completable! Everyone knows that the Pokédex totally mattered in those games! Totally good reason to not release them. /s

I really don't think they would make that much money with the old Pokemon games, especially if they won't have multiplayer options at all

Lets just hope sega continue with their amazing 3d series, are there any NES first party games left worth releasing on the 3ds virtualonsole?

Pokemon will be 20 yrs old on February 27 next year (japan date) ... if Red/Blue isnt released for 3ds by then it never will.

Someone said in the news comments it's been 30 weeks since they released any 3DS Virtual Console. Wah?

@LztheQuack: They've allowed far far worse games on the Virtual Console than single cartridge Pokémon.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Actually I'm pretty sure LucasArts died one or two years ago. Disney closed it.
I think it's just a zombie now, Disney is using its logo to license their games.
I mean, what are they going to do with ten people?
The only thing they could probably be working on right now is the Day of the Tentacle remake or some mobile games.
I really hope the Day of the Tentacle remake isn't dead, such a good game...

LucasArts still exists so the company can still be a licensor. There are still no projects currently or any in the future coming up though.

The last Virtual Console games we got on the 3DS were the Donkey Kong Land Games back in Feburary.

Since then, we have gotten nothing.

Which is a shame, since the Wii U has gotten Earthbound Beginnings, both Star Tropics games, Vs Excitebike, and other NES games on its virtual console.

So, there is still some new content Nintendo could add to the 3DS VC. Its simply a matter of them not caring enough to even bother.

my short answer is they are bussy with other things such as zelda wii u, and star fox, or userbase buys verry little vc games, so they go with winners first then play waiting game and maybe 3rd party are like not happening with our old title give us money. would love to see a few gamecube on 3ds that takes longer than earlyer systems for vc

I've wondered whether it's because of the Dena deal - I have a nasty feeling when the new service is launched that pre-existing purchases on VC won't count for lecciones en linea, so to avoid too much backlash Nintendo has kind of mothballed the VC.

The occasional release such as Earthbound Beginnings does admittedly conflict with that theory though.

I'm hoping that Nintendo will release more VC games next year if Pokémon sells well. Even if it is just Pokémon Gold, Silver and Crystal on Game Boy Color.

There are still some Nintendo games I'd kill to have on the 3DS, but thanks to Nintendo I will never get to see them. Games such as Super Mario World, SimCity, Yoshi's Cookie, Zelda: A Link to the Past and Game & Watch Gallery 4. YC came out on NES and GB so why hasn't it come out on the 3DS VC???? Pokemon Puzzle Challenge did.

I'd also buy Harvest Moon More Friends of Mineral Town and Contra III day one, but they're not Nintendo games.

Sorry if this has already been asked before but I just to know, why are they releasing GBA games on Wii U and not 3DS? Don't portable games belong on a portable console? I already have 10 GBA games that work perfectly on my 3DS. They spent the resources to emulate them on 3DS but don't want to make a dime off of them? Makes no sense...

I apologize for ranting.

@MayorPaine: Because the GBA games were for early adopters of the 3DS. Basically when they dropped the price of the 3DS so quickly after launch Nintendo did some damage control to avoid upsetting people who bought it a launch. If they were to give everyone 3DS games those people would complain so they did the next best thing releasing them on the Wii U.
