@Trinexx: I looked at a FAQ on the password system. It seems like you have to go back and forth between games and that sounds like a hassle. If I get these games, I might just play through them without it.
It'll be a while til I get there because I'm currently in the middle of several Zelda games.
Playing both Ages and Seasons without linking them is fine. However, if one of the reasons that you play Zelda games is for the story, then you're missing out on some things...including the true ending.
@Aurin: How was Shantae? I've considered picking it up before.
@Aurin: If you complete Oracle of Ages, you'll get a password at the end that will allow you to "continue" that game in Oracle of Seasons. There are many perks, such as starting with an extra heart and the wooden sword in a linked game, plus some of the story elements are changed around to match events from the previous game. You can also share passwords between the games to transfer rings and unlock items and item upgrades by interacting with characters that wouldn't be there otherwise. Traditionally on the GBC this could be done by either writing down the passwords or connecting two systems with each game via link cable, but obviously the password system must be used on the 3DS. The password system can be a bit confusing, so I recommend hitting up a FAQ if you decide to play a linked game.
Without spoiling anything, completing the second "linked" game unlocks the true ending plus extra gameplay, which will wrap up some of the plot elements that you'll encounter in Ages.
If you speak so highly of the Shantae series, I may try and pick up Pirate's Curse! I was referring to the GBC game before, but I'm open to trying the other games as well.
Glad that you know who my avatar is, the character is obscure enough that I don't think most here know who she is. It was one of my favorite shows as a kid.
Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)

Oracle of Ages comes first in the timeline?
Most Zelda games are amazing, to be fair. I think I might enjoy Link's Awakening DX more...if I want to replay it. I just beat it last week or so.
I got a free code for Pirate's Curse and it's real good. Certainly more fun than Risky's Revenge was, but I haven't played the GBC one.
@David_NL: I think according to the official timeline (which I don't really buy some parts of it, but to each their own) Seasons comes first. However, they can technically be played in any order.
Link's Awakening is my favorite handheld Zelda to date, though I have yet to play Minish Cap or A Link Between Worlds. (I own them both, they're just part of the backlog....)
@Aurin: There's one overall true ending for both of them, it's just that the overall storyline gets there a little differently depending on the order in which you play both games. For example, I'm playing in the order of Ages ---> Seasons, whereas events will happen/be associated with the previous game differently if you play them in the opposite order.
I've read that Shantae is very Metroidvania in style, which makes me think I would enjoy it.
As for the listed shows, I'm familiar with most of those, though Kenshin and Slayer are admittedly unknown to me. XD (Didn't have many cartoons other than Saturday morning stuff....)

@Aurin: No problem on the explanation! To blow your mind further, at the end of a linked game (which in my case would be Seasons) you also get a password for that same game (Seasons) where you can play the original story of Seasons unaltered; from what I understand, there are still perks like with a linked game, and you get to transfer rings again. Technically, if I were to complete Seasons, I could then unlock a linked game for Ages....The cycle would never end. XD
I'll probably look up both Kenshin and Slayers and watch them at my leisure. Thanks!

After finishing Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins relatively easily & quickly I still wanted some retro Mario action so I picked up Super Mario Bros. 3 yesterday.
Feeling confident that I'd breeze through I'm halfway through world 2, although I have lost quite a few lives in the process. Many on stupid things trying to find secrets and not just finish the levels. Might stop hunting for secrets and just play the levels then replay specifically looking for secret stuff. Might be kinder on my lives.
Still the game is more challenging than I was expecting/remember from my youth, which is making it more enjoyable/frustrating

Currently playing through GBC Zelda - Oracle of Seasons. I am enjoying it a lot. The visual style and game mechanics seems to be a small improvement over GB Link's awakening, but I liked the story line in Link's Awakening more.
VC games I've played:
-GBC The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX (14:58) — I really enjoyed this game. Definitely worth the price and worth playing compared to current 3DS releases.
-GBC The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (13:33) — I still have 2-3 dungeons to complete. Really enjoyable so far. However, I would recommend Link's Awakening before this game.
-NES The Legend of Zelda (8:25) — It was nice to see Zelda's roots since my first Zelda was SNES ALttP. It's amazing how many things have remained the same since the beginning. But, this is a difficult game. Difficult in the old-school game sense, where you die and restart, and things are simply hidden, just to waste time. I did not hesitate too long before using a strategy guide/walk-through for this game. And for the final dungeon, i just used the walkthrough in real-time.
-NES Super Mario Bros. 3 (5:55) — Fun game. Nice graphic improvement. Interesting suits and power-ups. A great game to play in between others.
-NES Super Mario Bros. (2:38) — Fun to play. Definitely use the VC save states to see the game to the end.
-GB Super Mario Land 2 - 6 Golden Coins (0:43) — This game is recommended by lots of people. But I am not a fan of the physics. The scenery and monsters are interesting for sure. But I'm just not enjoying this one.
-NES Zelda II - The Adventure of Link (0:31) — This game is just terrible to play. Worse than the original. There is no help within the game. I still plan to play through this game, but I will just follow a walk-through.
I just got Zelda: Oracle of Seasons on the really good E3 sale. I'm going to try to play through a few dungeons before I decide if I want to get Ages as well. Color is nice, but I think Link's Awakening immediately felt more like a "classic" game.
Picked up Link's Awakening in the sale and started playing in last night. Got through the first dungeon and just rescued bowwow. Great fun, story seems good, gameplay is good and graphics are nice too.
