I've never been much of a fan of Wario platformers, partly because they're barely platformers, in the traditional sense.

Sure they are. What would you call them?

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

I can't see how Wario could be anything but a platformer. I love it! I'll probably get crucified for saying this on a Nintendo forum but the Mario games are boring. They've not changed in the last 24 years I've been playing them. Wario on the other hand is an interesting character and the games have some unique ideas. I imagine a designer somewhere had a folder packed with stuff for a Mario game, which got shot down and turned in to the Wario games.

You'll get crucified if any fanboys are passing through - that's for sure.
Mario games havent changed much in the last 24 years, correct, but that's because they got a fun formula correct from the start. Despite the fat that the NSMB series is really dragging the series' reputation through the mud at the moment, I still love playing Mario platformers.
Havent you played Warioware?
I cant really explain why - but I dont like any of the Warioland games myself. I forced myself to spend time on all the first 4, and I hated all of them.

Did they keep the flag game in the VC version?

Of course. It's the exact same game.

So is this VC game worth buying? Seems like a resounding 'YES!" I usually buy them all anyways, but I'm behind, I didn't purchase Ninja Gaiden last week, only because I spent many an hour beating it as a kid. Not sure if I can go through all that madness again.

This game is excellent. Definitely better than 1 and WAY better than 3, IMO. I would wager this is the best game in the series to start with.

This game is miles better than Wario land 4. I love it!

Just got this on a whim, never played it before (but I am a classic GB/GBA old skool game lover.) This is a fantastic game! Great sound, visuals, gameplay, level design, witty moments, you name it. Greatness achieved!

I'm liking this game, only I can't seem to figure out the purpose of all of this. Wario can't even die. Oh well. It's enjoyable regardless.

While I usually HATE no death games, this game is still hard, but with the intent of annoying you. If you fight a boss and take a hit, you get sent back. If you hit the wrong enemy you get sent back. It's more of a way to annoy the player more than anything else

I have played only 1 & 4 as I saw them being much different than the other two. I started playing 2 on an emulator a few years back and it kinda felt like a downgrade when compared to the first (had this 'at a first glance' impression thing), but I really didn't bother to go through the levels to really see if it won't start to satisfy my platforming needs at some given point. It's 5 euros here and I may want to save my money for something like Mega Man 2 when it comes out.

I'm not a fan of 3. They made the no-death thing too obscure and the boss fights really frustrating. Exploration is a lot more trial and error, too.

It's about exploring and getting as many coins as possible which is the only real way to get 100%. It's mostly a score game (the coins are the score), having death in it would just make it redundant.

Are there any treasures like in Wario Land 1? Because that's what gave that game an edge over many 2d side-scrollers at the time.
