I finished Super Mario Land 2 yesterday. Next up is Donkey Kong!

No! Not into the pit! It BURNS!

Finished Metroid: Fusion yesterday. I could never beat it as a kid, so I'm so happy I was given the chance to play it again. It was pure epicness from beggining to end.

SPOILERS. It felt so good to finally beat SA-X into the ground, after running from it the entire game. It wasn't the most difficult boss I've beat (heck, it wasn't even the toughest in Fusion), but the mood was set so well throughout the game, that it was certainly the most tense, IMO. SPOILERS END.

I finished Gargoyle's Quest. Boy was that game a good challenge. I welcome more games like that. Dear Capcom, games like this is what made you the best third party company not re- relases of updated games or pointless DLC. thanks your fan, Shawn M.

Back to serious, this game was fun. I have never played it before. Totally in my top 5 gb games ever now. Behind Pokemon, James Bond, Donkey Kong Land, Metal Gear Solid, etc.

Burger Time Deluxe (GB). OK, not quite finished the last set of levels 21-24 but I have unlocked all of the passwords. Fun and well balanced gameplay, a very respectful update of the arcade original which brings interesting new layouts but retains the classic gameplay. 8/10

I've beaten

Donkey Kong Jr. ( Beat all levels on both difficulties)
Wario Ware Inc. ( Not 100% just the main game)
Donkey Kong '94
Radar Mission ( There are no unlockables in this game)

Firejonie

Chrono_Cross

Kirby's Dream Land. A tad easy but it was really fun especially for its price.

Just for you.

Sonic the Hedgehog: Triple Trouble (GG). The basic platforming action was quite enjoyable, and a nice return to form, after having played through Sonic Labyrinth. Although i found a few minor irritations such as the last set of levels being confusing - i was going round in circles in those chutes for quite a while. I also had a few problems with the view being just a little too close-in for comfort, so occassionally fell to my death where i couldn't see what i was doing. The most dssapointing thing were the boss fights, they were easy to defeat, but hard to avoid being hit - every boss fight went the same for me, i.e. hit the boss, suddenly get hit and then chase after the ring you drop... as long as i got the ring back every time i beat the boss. I only got a bad end so will try the game again sometime, I didn't manage to complete any of the special stages, and didn't even see the 3d flying stage it mentions in the manual. 6.5/10

The Sword of Hope II. Easily one of the best 3DS VC games out there (right up there with Link's Awakening DX, and Metroid II, IMO).

It has an amazing story (by GB standards at least), it's long (20 hrs, 40 mins for me to beat), and enemy sprites hardly ever get used (which is fantastic for an RPG, especially one this old).

Castlevania Adventure (GB), I had played this before on the Konami Collection on GBC but never beaten it. I was pleased to finally beat this (even though i had to use restart points). It's hard to reccoemend this, even series-fans are likely to be disspaointted. It has a fair few issues, the slow down and graphical glitches (it will display the health bar in the wrong place for the odd frame) are really poor and not something you'd expect from a Konami game. Some gameplay elements are annoying - when backtracking to pick up items, or getting knocked back by an enemy, even by the tiniest amount, you'll keep getting enemies respawining. This problem makes the later area of spiked rooms in level three really dificult to get past as you simply don't have any time to spare. Anyway, I got about four and a half hours play out of it so i'm happy i got some value out of it, some good music too. 4/10
Hoping for some more (better) Konami games on GB VC soon - loved that Motocross Maniacs game back in the day.

Just finished Metroid Fusion (GBA) for the first time. Amazing game - it really picked up towards the end, and it's one of my favourite GBA games now (Minish Cap is still better :3).

Just finished Metroid! Truely a classic game, but I fail to see why Metroid II is considered less of a game, when it improves the series in nearly every way imaginable.

SPOILERS

  • Metroid II progresses linear enough where you won't get confused, but there's still enough labyrinths and hidden items to satisfy explorers (that, and the absence of a map).
  • While all the bosses in MII were Metroids, there were 5-6 different variations, which is more diverse than Metroid's 3 bosses (although, excluding Ridley, the first game had the tougher bosses).
  • MII abandoned the archaic password system for save points.
  • Series staples such as the Space Jump (really useful) and the Plasma Beam were introduced.
  • Despite the lack of color, MII looked better as well. Due to the closer camera view, more detail was put into Samus, and your enemies. The lack of color also required them to pay extra attention to detail, such as adding shoulder pads to the Varia Suit (a series staple), and the change of the arm cannon when using missles. (There's also the argument that the lack of color adds to the series trademark sense of isolation).

SPOILERS END.

Again, both games were great, but I don't see how Metroid II could be a considered less of a game.

Metroid II isnt less of a game. It's vastly superior - and that says a lot since its NES vs GB.

Oh i've bet Metroid quite a lot, but more the remake than the original. Who of you have memorised the entire layout of Zebes in the original Metroid? I definitely have! I don't even need to resort to a walkthrough for either version and i've never needed to either! Metroid II however, I didn't ever get to play until up to the VC release this year, so that's a hard one, but not really as @RR529 put it. Metroid II is fairly linear, and i'm a bit of a completionist, I think it took me 15 hours to find every single upgrade and defeat the final boss, but that's no record time by the way.
I find the GBA version, Zero Mission, is easier for speed runs, mostyl because I can beat it in uner 1hr 20mins or less! I haven't tried speed running the original, but that would be a whole new challenge for me if I were to try.
Also whenever I do play the remake, I always set it to Hard mode, because easy isn't the same as the originals difficulty and the original only had one, Hard, but Hard always feels easy to me LOL

I have a ton of games but haven't beaten much only kirby's dream land (It was easy and short), Super Mario Land 2 (also easy but had good length), Sonic: Triple Trouble (Fun sonic game and i love playing as Tails), and 3D Classics Kirby's Adventure (Easy game and i had it for GBA). That's all I've beaten out of my about 40 3DS VC games but i'm gonna start getting down to beat more games. the ones on my list are Lock n' Chase, 3D Classics: Kid Icarus, Avenging Spirit, Donkey Kong '94, Metroid, and Bionic Comando. These i will try to beat this weekend.

Now for something completely different!
Still got it memorized?

I just beat The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX. I had never played it before, as I was into Zelda as a kid and also kind of skipped out on the GBC in general. It is a great game, and I highly recommend it. I also beat DK '94 a couple months ago. That game was really good too.

I recently completed Gargoyle's Quest II: The Demon Darkness. It was... short. And surprisingly easy, considering how difficult the original GB release was.
