Well I suppose that comes down to preference. Whilst the guidance is as I said down to how old the game is, I feel that the enemy balancing could have been easily done better just by changing a few numbers around. You cant completely dismiss these problems just because the game is old (do remember that RPG's on the NES handled these issues better), but the game is a very good one none the less.

@Geonjaha - I only needed to grind for the final boss, as different attack magic can be more effective on certain enemies that can be hard to kill, and the stat boosting spell you get can also help with the difficulty (I know there is more then one). For the armour, save before you buy it, then reset if it's bad. As for your level jump problems, a single level or new weapons and armour can fix it.

Thanks for the advice. I cant speak for later game content - I'm just talking about the game up till where I am now, which is the desert. I'd prefer not to use restore points for this game, so I'll just take the chance on the armour. That wont really be a problem now, because I have about 4000 gold from the casino and gems found lying around. I bought the best equipment in the desert store, which is in a way a good and bad thing game-design wise.

I cheated using save states on the casino to get more gems. Can't be bothered wandering round fighting enemies until I get enough Gold.

I never needed to grind for exp or gold...did I just get lucky? I ended up with an exorbitant amount of gold when the game was over, without any save state abuse, and even the final boss wasn't that bad.

I wasn't buying the best weapons and armor, though...just moderate upgrades to get me by until I found something better. You find the strongest stuff laying around for free, after all, so don't bother saving up for the most powerful stuff in a shop!

Same here. The game required little to no grinding for me, and if you keep your eyes peeled, you can find good weapons & armor lying around.

The BEST stuff though, needs to be bought, and is very, very expensive. I won't say where or what, but there are a few items you can find in a certain dungeon, and if you take them to the game's only blacksmith, he'll forge them into ultra powerful weapons & armor (which you have to buy for somewhere inbetween 16,000 and 18,500 gold each, which is quite hefty when outfitting your entire team). Still, these ultra powerful upgrades are completely optional.

What is the level cap for all the characters? I assume it won't be like Lvl 99, but I just want to clarify with those who've already beaten the game.

I could be wrong, but it's probably level 30. One of my party members (won't say who, in case you haven't got them yet) is level 29, and has the most powerful offensive spell in the game.

EDIT: A walkthrough said level 32.

I already know I'll be forced to download this, at some point in time. Can you tell I love Gameboy games? For some reason, they provide me with more nostalgia than NES titles.

I just got it and it's great so far! Definitely the best RPG on the eshop (although that's not saying much at all). Plus, judging by the posts on this thread this game seems like a steal at $4.50 content wise

He may not be taking DSiWare into account (generally, when someone talks about the best eShop games, they're only referring to the 3DS exclusive content such as VC and "3DSWare").

Or, he may just not care for Zenonia, I know I don't (played it on iOS & couldn't get into it).

I played the third Zenonia on iOS, and it just didn't snap for me. I dunno why, perhaps the entire package just seemed a little bland to me. Which is weird, because that game sounded utterly amazing on paper, too.

I totally would try it on Dsiware to see if buttons make the experience any better (those tiny potion hotkeys was one of the things that irked me) but 12 dollars seemed a little hefty

SPOILERS. It's only 3 or 4 spaces wide, but I believe there's something that causes you to loop around. There is some sort of rock you need to get (by way of pliers), and you can use it to plug the hole up, that the turtle came out of. Afterwards, the turtle will reveal a straight path in the grass (it's seaweed), that'll lead you to the elder. SPOILERS END.

EDIT: Wait! you're not at the bottom, are you? If you're just swimming around (getting attacked by fish), just go down until you reach the bottom. left & right go on endlessly.

@Chicken_Brutus - You may have. I had to grind a level as everyone for the last boss and had to go collect money for the best stuff.

I just realised the teleport spell is usable outside of battle! This basically means you get a free full-heal by teleporting to Riccar Castle and then back to where you were! Plus, it would have saved so much time after deaths compared to walking all the way back!

Yes, it is quite useful. However I've also just realised that the Shaman is completely redundant. Why spend money on revivals when your whole party gets revived and healed when you're wiped out? There's no penatly for dying - and once you get the teleport spell it isnt even a bother.
