Rated by the ACB, this got a PG rating for 3DS, so it's coming soon!

This one's ok, but I always preferred the original NES Contra. Hopefully we'll see that one sooner or later.

They always skip the original and the metal gear games due to their presences on the MSX. But guess what? That's only in Japan's VC, so we are stuck without them. Shame as I really want Metal Gear.

@TheDreamingHawk: I doubt that it has to do with that. Super C was released way before Konami started supporting the MSX.

But Super C didn't get a MSX port, did it? That's probably why they put the NES version up instead.

@TheDreamingHawk: No that's not the reason. The MSX didn't even exist on the Wii VC whenever it was released.

I remember the first two MSX games (Aleste and Eggy?) were announced as "coming soon" for a LONG time before they were released.

I don't get why they always give us this instead of Contra — way more people would buy Contra. I thought maybe they were trying to sell people this on the Wii and then eventually they would release Contra so that people would end up buying both, but if they ever are planning to release Contra, they sure are taking their sweet time.

And what ever happened to the new Contra 3DS game they announced over 2 years ago? It was the main game that made me want a 3DS in the first place, and then we've never heard anything about it.

Maybe it's because of contra 4.

The NES original blows Super C out of the flippin' water in terms of everything you can think of. Super C is still a fun ride, but it's soundtrack is severely dissapointing in comparison to the first, the stage design seems uninspired and less exciting, the bosses aren't as interesting or creative and i really missed those amazing 3rd person Enemy Base levels from the first. The Original i see as a 10...It's just so classic. where as Super C gets a 7.5. One thing's for sure, I'll never forget Super C's killer commercial!

Super C is such the better of the two Contra NES games. I am not a big fan of those 3rd person enemy base levels in the original. The top down in Super C is a much better change of pace. It is still odd that they haven't released Contra though for a retro game in such high demand.

So is Super Contra, Contra 2? I'm just curious because I watched a vid on youtube about the contra series by AVGN, who seemed confused too.

Yeah, Super C is the 2nd Contra, and then they came out with Contra III for the Super NES, just to be super confusing.

Contra Force is not part of the Contra series. It was a Japanese game by Konami completely unrelated to the Contra series which was then renamed as a Contra game for release in America. The AVGN thought (at least for sake of the video) that Contra Force was part of the main series.

But in Europe the series was called Probotector up until the PlayStation games.
NES Contra = Probotector
NES Super C = Probotector 2
SNES Contra III = Super Probotector
GENESIS Contra: Hard Corps = Probotector
GAME BOY Operation C = Probotector
GAME BOY: Contra: Alien Rebels = Probotector 2 (a GB port of Contra III)

I don't knock the change of name since my parents got me NES Probotector as my first NES game for Christmas one year solely because it had robots on the front. If it retained the muscle action heroes of Contra, they wouldn't have done.

Can't wait for this. I never knew people hated Super C though. It's not as good as the original but it isn't horrible.

Oh, I have Contra 4 as well but the emulators used for Contra and Super C was horrible. I could barely see enemy bullets most of the time, making playing them pretty unplayable. I was super excited about them being there but it left me so disappointed. I'm surprised I'm the only one here who mentioned it though. Maybe it was just me. I'd much rather have the VC release of these games so I can actually play them.

I think there were options on whether to use a cropped screen or rescaled screen for the NES games on Contra 4, so yeah it would definitely look a bit better with the 3DS resolution, but the bullets are going to look tiny no matter what on a handheld (except for maybe the XL). I'd probably pay the $5 to rebuy Contra, since I play it so frequently, but Super C isn't a game I go back to very often.

But... Super C has music that sounds like it doesn't belong on an NES! That's why I like it better.

But one question: Will it have the 2P wireless co-op? If it does, that may make it the best handheld contra yet.

So far I don't think they've given us local wi-fi on any VC titles, although I think there was something in the works for Ice Climber, so maybe eventually.

Ice Climber, Balloon Fight, and Yoshi all have multiplayer in them. As well as all other games that don't work with the L and R switch.
