When does it come out I want some classic Sonic goodness on the go.

I don't know. I thought Game Gear games were supposed to be released this summer but that's not going to happen.

I know it isn't the Virtual Console, but you also have the option of paying $20 or less for Sonic's Classic Collection on the DS. It's got Sonic 1, 2, 3, and Sonic & Knuckles all on one game cart.

He's talking about the Gamegear versions guys. Classics Collection is a crappy port of the Genesis games.

Sonic 1 Game Gear edition, to me, is the best oldschool Sonic. It's got much more emphasis on platforming, including an auto scrolling level and a vertically scrolling level too. And they don't hold your hand anymore by not allowing you to re-collect Rings. You lose a Ring, you lose it for good until you find more. Challenge, To add to the challenge, You fight Robotnik in his own stage with no rings, just a hidden 1-up that you cannot collect more than once.

Fans of the speed aspect of Sonic may want to stay clear of this one, it's about as fast paced as Super Mario Bros when you hold the run button down at all times. But people who liked the platform heavy levels like Marble Zone and Spring Yard will love this.

Didn't care for Sonic 2 GG though. Too hard. Too many unfairly placed enemies and spikes. Worst water level ever. And the game teases you about Tails being playable the whole time, but the game is about SAVING Tails... whatever. Tails is basically "Easy Mode" anyway.

Triple Trouble was okay. Never did get all the emeralds on that one. Would love a real portable version.

Ah... No game gear games can be found on Classics Collection or Mega Collection. Only a few are found on Gems Collection, and it's not even the best selection.

ALL the gamegear games can be unlocked in Sonic Adventure DX: Director's cut though... but it's such a pain. And I don't want to pop in a disc that may or may not work to play them, even so, I'd rather they be portable then on my TV screen.
