Topic: SNES games on the 3DS Virtual Console

So do we know the possibility of this happening? I'd love to be able to carry Earthbound around with me, and having Link to the Past and Link Between Worlds both on the same system would be super convenient. I hope the 3DS is capable of pulling it off. Maybe we could even get them to look pixel perfect without the NES's scaling thing! So what do you guys think about this happening?

1. They won't be able to because they say the SNES is too powerful for the 3DS.
2. This is Nintendo we are talking about here. Since when did they ever do anything about the 3DS virtual console?

I like to play Nintendo games (for a living :P)
I support Wii U.
I love my brother.
I like Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, and Donkey Kong.

I worry about who works at Nintendo if they can't actually figure out how to emulate the SNES on the 3DS. Yeah emulating games is difficult but there were homebrewers who got SNES games on the DS.

The 3DS can handle SNES emulation just fine. They just have an excuse to put it on the Wii U VC instead. And what about GBA?! Why is that on the Wii U and not on the 3DS? Last time I checked, the Game Boy Advance was a handheld system. Maybe it's not that bad that it's on the Wii U and it hasn't sustained it's handheld exclusivity.

1. Who is "they"? Source plz
2. Well let's see, they released quite a few Game Boy games, several Game Boy color games, released Ambassador games, released at least 12 NES games, released some Game Gear games

I've read in multiple places not that the SNES is too powerful for 3DS but that they just speak different languages. Sega talked about it being a pain to emulate their 16 bit games on 3DS but they did it. Maybe Nintendo can buy Sega and make them their VC team.

My other Switch is a WiiU.

I would rather Neo Geo Pocket Color first as much as the SNES is my favorite console.

M2 did work for Nintendo to put the GBA games on the WiiU, I get the feeling they might also be working on the DS emulation for the WiiU as well.

I find that hard to believe since we know that the 3DS can play GBA games already and from what I have read GBA was just as powerful as the SNES. Heck the even had several SNES ports on the GBA like Breath of Fire and Zelda A Link to the Past. So I can't believe that the 3DS isn't powerful enough to run SNES games.

Slight difference is they were ports and not emulations. Also the GBA and SNES had a different processor family so alot of the power goes into trying to recreate that architecture (so I'm told) but it’s completely possible since people have already done it on the DS.

I thought GBA was an exception because it might not have been emulated, it could've ran through the GBA mode inside the DS mode.

Guys, it's pretty obvious that the SNES and GBA are too powerful. The 3DS can't take the high power games on such hardware. No offense to the 3DS, but it's sadly true.

Don't the GBA games have the Virtual Console screen/set up on them tho?

It's not the games that are the problem, it's running them as if the 3DS is a SNES. In anycase SNES games have been done on the DS by homebrewers and GBA has already been done by Ninty so the argument it can't be done doesn't hold up.

Nintendo wants you to have no option but to buy a Wii U if you want to play SNES games legally in a modern console..... there are no other explications

The 3DS deserved so much more. People have been wanting SNES games on the 3DS ever since it launched. It's so sad that their expectations were all in vain. I hope someday Nintendo would do a SNES-based 3D Classics line.

Its def just a excuse for people to have to buy a Wii U to play something like Earthbound for prime example.

And so people should. There is more to enjoy a Wii U for than just GBA and SNES VC games.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

I wish the quality of the SNES emulator was as good as the GBA one. (GBA it is very hard for me to tell the difference I used Warioware and other than on the grid when it gets past about 30 points I cannot tell any real difference - comparing to real hardware).

The NES one is just lazy - in NES Remix they actually bothered making the colours decent and it look nice. It seems to work better than either the 3DS or Wii U NES stuff. I don't have a real NES to test with though.
