I've read and heard the line "but these are old games" so many times now over the years. Like, so many times. It's just not an argument with Nintendo. That line is never, ever, ever going to resonate with Nintendo. It's a bad line at this point.

"It's just not an argument with Nintendo". So why aren't they charging near to full price or full price (retail) for them?
Please explain that without referencing age or accessibilty through other platforms. You won't be able to. Those ARE the reasons it's this price in the first place rather than $50 or whatever. People are just saying they should've taken it a little bit further.
And it'll resonate at optimum frequency if no-one buys them!

If you believe that reminding Nintendo that an NES game is an NES game and that it will affect enlightenment and cause them to slide the line down, by all means send the message that $5 = $1 in the reality the rest of the world outside Kyoto lives in. Seriously, I'm not against it and I'll happily pay less should that happen. But for 2 generations now, an NES game is worth $5 to Nintendo. When/if Diminishing returns change that pricing in a future generation, I don't think the comments about the age of the game will be a factor in the discussion at Nintendo's offices when they look at how to keep selling old games.

All this tech talk. Just buy a new 3DS and be happy with it

@Tasuki: The three biggest reasons right now to own a new 3DS are the following:

1. Improved games including Smash and Hyrule Warriors Legends
2. Improved 3D if you use it
3. SNES VC

If you don't find these appealing, then you should probably wait.

Don't care about Smash or Hyrule Warriors
Can't do 3D as it gives me migraines
Do care about that but not going to give into Nintendo when they can just as easily do it on older models as well.

@Damo: Cool yeah I have read a few other reviews and they all said pretty much what you did. So I will probably look into getting one when I have some extra money.

It's pretty much replaced my 3DS and Vita as my go-to handheld. Well worth a dented bank account lol

@Discostew, thanks for the enlightening tech breakdown. I have no plans to dip into the SNES Virtual Console on the New 3DS — because I prefer playing retro games on a console if the option's available, and because Ninty's lack of cross-buy is absolutely inexcusable at this point — but I was curious if the decision to put the games exclusively on the n3DS was down to business or hardware. So that's good to know.

I wish I could play SNES games on my 3DS. I noticed SimCity is in the list. I never buy newer models unless my current one dies, and my 3DS is still alive and kicking.

@Freelance: SimCity!!! I'm not sure how hard it will be to see the action on the screen but if that's 100% coming I'm getting it!

@Spoony_Tech: Don't get too excited. The list is for Japan at the moment. SimCity (SNES) is very basic now compared to the PC versions, but they don't have Bowser as a disaster

Sim city would be one I'd download, but... I don't see it being released here, didn't they have to remove it from the wii vc?

Well, if it comes, then I'll buy it quick before they remove it again

I'm not buying anything off the shop till My Nintendo goes live. Glad I held off on these.

@XyVoX: Not losing out on any of those coins till it goes live. Everything bought now will be a waste.

I'm still not convinced on the My Nintendo benefits personally.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Probably as good a place to post an update that won't matter to most: Japan gets Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem (I think that was one of the first announced SNES VC games for them?) Wednesday, according to JP eShop itself.

Next Japan update is Street Fighter Alpha 2, Final Fight 1 and Tetris Attack.
No N64 on 3DS VC, so they can't do the Pokemon Puzzle League substitution. Will have to settle with the already-released GBC version.
