At least I'm not completely naked. I still have my older 3DS XL, and have Fates (though I finished the main story), and the Megaman Collection to play.
I download a lot of stuff so most of my games are stuck inside my N3DS...
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.
I wonder if anyone else can confirm this but I was comparing SMW on 3DS VC to the game on a SNES + CRT and it seems to me that Mario moves just a little bit slower on the VC version. I feel like I can't jump consecutively as fast as I can on the SNES hardware. Would love to see a comparison video made...
According to modders, the OG 3DS runs SNES games terribly and they haven't found a way to get it to work right, so I can see why Nintendo would make these a N3DS exclusive.
I'm guessing this predates the 3ds rumor with the snes I'm guessing they failed at bringing that over to the normal 3ds. For me I'm not TOO head over heels over this since console games are meant to be played on the console but hey more options. Here's hoping they bring GBA and DS on the NEW 3ds fold soon since the NEW 3ds has got that blast processing now.
So it's pretty much guaranteed that we will have to pay full price or at the very least pay a discount price if we want to download the same games we already downloaded to the NX when the VC is on the system?
As you said, they would be able to sell to a lot more users if it was on both. I'm sure that if they could get it working to a reasonable enough quality they would. I mean why not? But they haven't. And the only reason they'd do that is because the 3DS isn't as capable as the New 3DS. I'd expect their next portable system to do both SNES and GBA and probably also N64 VC.
"That’s why most Virtual Console games are roughly the same size and usually much larger than a raw ROM dump of the game itself"
What.
But anyway that article is pretty interesting even though I already knew all of that about the 3DS' and it's hardware, I didn't realize the GBA to 3DS VC was so limited, it's just basically "here take the game and shut up" at short notice. Lol the 3DS sounds like it has split personality with 2 CPUs doing 2 different things. This is the 3D processors doing the main thing, then this is my other self, the DSi processor doing all the other stuff.
So it basically sounds like the 3DS has a small design flaw that doesn't allow it to play anything without difficulty, but in theory a few tweaks to either how Nintendo puts out VC games, or just the next iteration of a handheld (or whatever) should solve the problem.
Perhaps I'm giving Nintendo the benefit of the doubt but I'm guessing they didn't plan on putting GBA or SNES on the handheld in the first place and that's why it does what it does. If they were only anticipating NES & GB(C) games then their plan didn't last long enough? Why else would they just go "oh oops. Okay we'll make a new one for SNES retro releases"?
One important thing to look into is what the creator of higan/bsnes has said about his emulator and the reason why it requires more modern hardware to emulate 1:1 to a Super Nintendo. Nintendo wanted to have the games run at their best, so they probably ran into issues with the games running 1:1 on the old 3DS.
Oh damn it, I had no idea Capcom & Konami had so many SNES games coming for the N3DS. I just saw the article on this website lol. Ugh they're gonna make me get Mystical Ninja again because I have to.
@Tasuki: look into the GPD XD. Best handheld I own!
Dang that is nice. @Damo even gave it a glowing review. Thanks man will look into that. See that's what I mean, I guess Nintendo doesn't like my money.

And here's a list of Super Famicom games coming soon in Japan. (I don't understand Japanese very well, so I'm hoping for a translation pretty soon.)
They are list of games getting discounts. They are already released. Also they are all Famicom games. I see 500 yen and Super Mario USA (Super Mario Bros. 2) is on the list.
I can't be any happier. Honestly, this is the one that surprised me the most and the highest point of the direct to me.
As for the lack of cross buy, i honestly don't get this at all. Do you guys realize that cross buy only applies to console games that have a portable version of the game right? Not to mention that the coding done to emulate the games on the XL is different than that of the Wii U because of obvious technical limits.
This only applies to console games that have the exact ports of the handheld games. The emulation between the Wii U and the 3DS isn't the same so the idea that a cross buy should happen is really plain dumb to think so.
