@iphys - Here's a rationale for buying it you may not have thought of: get so we can have future sales. I'm fairly certain that Nintendo has seen the sales figures for this game drop to the point that everybody that has wanted it has gotten it, so they're using this game to test the how successful future sales are. This is a perfect example of "voting with your money." If we vote "yes" by making this sale a success in the eyes of Nintendo, we'll probably have more eShop sales in the future, and perhaps that game will have a bigger price drop than 25% (not that that isn't a good amount, just that we may get drops like 33%, 50% or even 75% in the future) or something that we want but are on the fence about because of the price. However, if we vote "no" and the sale isn't successful, we may still have to pay $4 for games like SML in 5 years. Every little bit counts; those measly $3 may make the difference. note to nl staff: fleshing out this argument may make for a good opinion piece; i really don't care if you steal my idea.

I agree with you whole-heartedly, we need more people to buy more games off the eshop, so then in the future our range of titles will be more varied. I think that's a problem with us here in NZ/OZ, we don't always get all the 3DSware/DSiware/VC games that you americans get and that's understandable since we're both different countries and the population of gamers is more diminished here than say in the states. If more people owned a 3DS or played Nintendo games here in NZ, then it would have more of an impact on what we see coming to the eshop. Of course since we are more of a '360' obssessed country when it comes to video games, the chances of developers taking a risk to release a downloadable game on the eshop is much less.
I am of course not a huge fan of the '360', but it has everything to do on why our Eshop doesn't have as as good selection as the US or europe. People are buying DLC and Xbox live arcade games with their 360s and spending less or next to nothing on nintendo devices, it makes sense since not everyone I know owns a 3DS, even though it's about the right time and price to buy one. Most people I know don't view ninendo as 'hardcore' over here and seeing as opinions= sales, the chances of having a better online infrastructure on the 3DS are slim.
I'm supporting Nintendo though, I'm just about to download Mutant Mudds and I've bought some VC games recently as well like Kirby's Dreamland 2 and Game & Watch Gallery 2, i'm hoping nintendo continues to bring our more VC games soon, as these wont last long with me.

So, I'm back to this again. Let me narrow this down a little. Give me your opinion's folks.

1) Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (Gameboy VC)
2) Metroid II: Return of Samus (Gameboy VC)
3) Shinobi (GameGear VC)

1) Very, very, very easy...apart from the glorious final castle...but it's bursting with charm. Buy it if you want to have something mellow to unwind with now and again...don't buy it if you're seeking a challenge.
2) Brilliant. Somewhat frustrating to navigate, but by no means insurmountable. If you don't mind backtracking a bit due to confusion and feeling periodically lost, this is one of my favorites in the series, which is saying a lot. A much deeper experience than you might expect from the Game Boy.
3) There is almost nothing bad I can say about this one, apart from the fact that the Game Gear games sound really quiet to me. Lots of fun, inventive challenge, and replay value in the form of upgrades and multiple paths through the game. The final stretch is punishing, but oh so sweet to finish.

Thanks @Chicken_Brutus, I decided to choose Metroid II: Return of Samus. It's also one of my favorite Gameboy titles. I was never able to complete it as child, due to the amount of confusion I experienced. Hopefully, I'll finally be able to complete this game nowadays. I won't allow myself to become so frustrated to the point that I give up on the game, though. I'll just print out a map from GameFAQs, before I allow that to happen.

@G4L I completed the game the first time when I bought it off the eshop, I didn't use a walkthrough or a map. Same when I last played metroid, I know the entire map of the top of my head now.

Nice choice G4L, Metroid II is an old favorite of mine. Metroid games can be pretty frustrating, but they're always fun. I wish they had finished the colorized remake though. Even though the GBC's color palette was less than stellar, it would have really enhanced the experience.

Thanks @PoorVGameNerd. I wish the Gameboy Color version hadn't been cancelled as well. It would've made it much easier to establish which direction you're traveling and what area you're currently in. Although, I don't believe it would hold as much of a nostalgic value for myself, because I never even owned a Gameboy Color.

Don't worry @GamecubeMan, the Super Mario Land games are next on my list. I'm going to try and save enough in my eShop account, so I can purchase Wario Land on the day it becomes available. Gargoyle's Quest, Megaman, Kid Icarus, Avenging Spirit and the Kirby's Dreamland games are also priorities.

How is Adventure Island? I just realized that I've never heard anyone talking about it positively, or negatively (I don't hear anything at all).

I think the SNES game(s) were well regarded if I remember correctly, is the GB game worth it.

Adventure Island is fun, and its worth its lower price, but personally I'm waiting for the GB sequel to hit the eShop - because that's the one I played when I had my GBC; fond memories and all. :3

Adventure Island is an OK game, the basic gameplay is decent enough, although there's not a whole lot of variety in the gameplay.
I would reccomend any of the Mario land games... or perhaps Bionic Commando, GG Shinobi as other platform games to get before getting this one.

OK, I won't get it then, unless eShop has some sort of major drought in the future (also, I have all the other games you recommended).

Just got Marvel Pinball 3D, and am loving it (and with 8-bit Summer starting next week, I should be good for awhile).

Thanks for the tips everyone.

Adventure Island is pretty fun. Though as mentioned, it's a bit standard. The sequel had a little more variety, like alternate paths.
However, note the titles are a bit confusing. Game Boy "Adventure Island" is the same game as the NES "Adventure Island II" and the GB "Adventure Island II" is the same game as the NES "Adventure Island III". Only Japan got the GB games with the correct numbers.
I'm not certain, but I think the NES AI2 had some more levels than the GB, though the NES somewhat randomly selected levels, so you wouldn't play them all each time. (too bad the NES AI2 is for some reason missing from the NA Wii VC, while the other regions have it)

I have 15$ left on my eshop account any recommendations or should I wait until 8-bit summer.

I say wait and see what gets released. We know most of the titles but you never know what else they will sneak in. Also don't forget the Weekend Sales. I'm waiting for Kid Icarus and hoping Zelda: LA DX and Gargoyle's Quest go on sale.

Yeah I was thinking that too and I originally had 20$ but I spent it on Super Mario Bros. now that I think about it I should get VVVVVV while it's on sale.

I recommend Metroid 2 and Super Mario Land 2 through the VC service and Pushmo for eShop DL. If u can only get one, get Metroid 2, awesome game and great graphics for a GB game!

Yes, be sure to get VVVVVV! It's the best "3DSware" platformer currently available, IMO.

After that, I say get Zelda next week. Truly a classic. Although if you don't have Link's Awakening yet, I'd probably give that a higher priority than the original Zelda.

As Hydeks said, Metroid II is pretty fantastic as well. It really boils down to if you like Zelda or Metroid more.

I hope Zelda goes on sale next week. I really want to play it again, thought I could just find my copy (that I spent $25 on a year or 2 ago) and my GBA SP. But that would require effort lol/

Random: Does anyone think Gargoyle's Quest will go on sale? I want to get it, but can wait if it means I will save a $1 or 2.

So far they've only ever put Nintendo GB games on sale, although they've had 3rd party 3DS games on sale, so there might not be any agreements in place for that.
