We've already heard that this is coming to the N.A. eShop soon from NL.

Looking around, it also has a page on the eShop. In the VC section, it can be found on the end alongside the two Sonic GG games that haven't released yet.

So, anyone excited for this?

I played this one quite a bit as a kid. Should be interesting to revisit!

@6ch6ris6: I've been wondering that too!

@Philip_J_Reed: Will you be reviewing this one?

This looks very interesting, but with Denpa Men out I don't want to spend the money until I hear more impressions / reviews? Anyone playing it yet?

@6ch6ris6: It's probably meant to mean "official thread".

Which is probably why TBD changed it to "Impressions", because we normal users lack the power to label any of our game threads as "Official" (that would need to be done by the creator of the game or a staff member of the site).

Meowph, that's right!

Oh look! A Morphloggery.
Oh! eShop Gurus.

When I read the news article it seemed interresting, but after watching a video it didn't really appeal to me. You're just floating around making squares.
But that's after just one video of course. I really hope i'm wrong though, I love action puzzlers

Yeah, it does mean "Official Thread". I've saw other users do it (a recent one would be Sony_70 & the Denpa Men thread), which is why I did it.

I own a real US cart as well as the EU Konami GB Collection that calls it Block Game, and the Famicom version. The FC version seems like it could be cool if I could find someone to play it with. That had 2P co-op and competitive modes. The purpose is to shoot blocks to make squares/rectangles with four straight edges. Try to make a rectangle using multiple blocks at once as the corners for a combo-clear, for a bonus multiplier (and it will also blind more of the opponent's screen in multiplayer, though the VC probably doesn't support that. As I recall not even the EU GBC version did, either. )
The GB version has a bunch of preset stages in addition to a "random" stage (which is different, because I think all other versions of the game only had random stages). As I recall, only the FC version gave you extra lives, allowing you to continue a couple times after the blocks touch (cross?) the "Limit Line".

Though I didn't notice until after I received my FC copy (CIB) and looked at the box, that the rocket you control (known as the "Blockbuster") is operated by a couple naked angels.
(yep, looks the fourth choice on the GB ship menu is the naked angels rocket )

From what I remember this game isn't as fun as Tetris or Space Invaders. It actually reminds me more of Pictobits, but it doesn't have as much character as that game does.

I love Quarth. It's a great game to pick up and play for a bit and then put down. If you love shumps and you love puzzle games then you can't go wrong.

I don't know if it is as much a shmup (despite that the FC box even called it a "shooting puzzle"). If you shoot carelessly, you're going to make a lop-sided shape, which means you're going to have to shoot more blocks to straighten out the edges (and of course you might not have time to do that before the blocks fall too far down the screen).

A game I have anticipated even more than some of the other konami games. Got it yesterday and I LOVE IT!

Serioisly, as a high score nerd, it's paradise!

The game looks fun but there's one thing that really bugs me about it. It keeps getting refered to as a shmup/puzzle hybrid. As a huge fan of the shmup genre this can't possibly be considered a shmup. It really is more of a puzzler than shooter. More comparable to Pictobits. I am considering picking it up though..

Stargazer

Why can't it possibly be considered a shmup? You're controlling a ship from an overhead perspective and shooting out blocks. Granted, you're building things and having them disappear rather than just outright destroying them, but calling it a shmup / puzzle game hybrid isn't odd IMO
