It won't happen until Nintendo sorts out multiplayer capabilities for the VC. At the moment, no VC game supports multiplayer which is essential to Pokemon for battling and trading with others. They will not rework the games to include online capabilities given their current attitude.
Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.
I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

I didn't connect with anyone to battle or trade ever with Pokemon on the GBA. It's not essential. There's probably about 20-50 hours of single player game play to be had (easy) out of any given GBA Pokemon game. More than a Mario Kart playthrough surely.
Edit: Thought this was about the ambassador games, but the Game Boy games have more hours of play time in a single player game than any other Game Boy game, probably.

I have been spoiled by the modern games... I just don't think I could play through Pokemon without running shoes again.I do miss the original battle sprites and music severely though.
I don't always give myself signatures, but when I do, you just read it.

@pocket_arsenal - the old games have smaller maps so you don't need to run and the bikes are easy to get early on so the running shoes aren't needed, plus I find you walk faster in the older ones
Thank you for the drawing @I-Hate-Ponies

That'd be cool. I stopped playing them after ruby and saphire though. I was satisfied catching 150 of them. Not 1x1000000000000000000 of them.
Thaaaaaanks for noticin' me.

I'd buy all the old Pokémon games on day one if they'd come in Virtual Console. I'm not expecting them to come before they support multiplayer in GB/C games (other than spin-offs). If they're going to make NES multiplayer, I can't see why they wouldn't add multiplayer to GB too. Give me at least Pokémon Trading Card Game as it doesn't need linking (well it supports it and few cards are only obtainable by linking but it's at least almost fully playable without).

I would love it if they released the old Game Boy Colour ones. The only old one I ever owned was Gold Version but for some unknown reason it kept on restarting every time I took it out of the Game Boy.

I can't save on Yellow anymore so I would love to see them put the first gen of games on the VC, They would have to add wirelesstrading in order to get all the mons. Wi-fi battling/trading would a nice addition but not mandatory.

I'm sure Nintendo is working on a way to incorporate the trading system into it via DS Wireless. Wi-fi would be awesome, but you know Nintendo.

As long as we get a Pokemon title via 3DS Ambassador Program I wont give a damn about Pokemon on VC.

@kirby95 - my silver version does the same thing, I don't have a cure, I think it means a battery has dried out

Good thing this game likely won't allow trading between games. Just imagine.
Catch Mewtwo.Create restore point.Trade Mewtwo to friends for Pidgey.Load restore point. And nothing of value was lost.Trade back repeatedly for Infinite Pokemon.

They could simply disable restore points for certain games, you know.

@pocket_arsenal - as "fun" as that might be I think they would go for the super smash bros on wii route and have no restore points
35. Posted: Thu 13th Oct 2011 22:25 BST
They could also delete the restore point and disable the VC menu while playing with another person.

@Morpheel - good idea and it should be applied to all vc games once they get the multiplayer working
37. Posted: Fri 14th Oct 2011 03:44 BST
Was it confirmed that they were working on multiplayer compatibility?I remember hearing them say the NES games would have updated features including, but not limited to, multiplayer ( and ambassador versions would automatically get this upgrade too ) ...but I wasn't sure if that was a rumor or not, or if it was for gameboy games as well as NES.
38. Posted: Fri 14th Oct 2011 19:59 BST
@pocket_arsenal - I heard that too, so I would say yes

Man I'm jonesing for some 3DS Pokemon. I hope they make Emerald an Ambassador exclusive and then release Ruby & Sapphire on the eShop.

Well so far they are pretending to not have any plans to release GBA games on the eShop.
