If they are going to continue insisting that old models can't play SNES VC, then they should continue NES, Gameboy, Gamegear and TG16 VC for the older models.
I doubt they will if the Switch is successful. They will phase out the 3DS, both New and Old, and drop support, which is kind of expected with a new system available.
Well they have said the Switch isn't going to cannibalize the 3DS (no mention of the Wii U tho HA HA HA) so they wont be dropping support immediately but there's no much to release for the VC, maybe Earthbound Beginnings and StarTropics, there's not much else I think of that hasn't been released first party wise.
@Ichi
I still don't agree with that. Emulation of older hardware that modern consoles can run circles around seems a no brainer.
VC is really one of the main reasons I got a 3ds in the first place, the other was Ocarina of Time. I don't know how Nintendo picks the games it releases for the VC some have been stinkers like Milons Secret Castle. Why not release the good games, R-type DX would be a great bargain, 5 games in one, or the best Castlevania Gameboy game Legends? Bayou Billy is on WiiU VC exclusively for no reason considering you don't need to use the zapper originally.
@GameOtaku
Emulation isn't as easy as people make it up to be. Some consoles still can't be emulated, and most require you to have decent/good specs and even then it isn't a guarantee. And let's be frank - the 3DS specs aren't good at all.
Why don't they release Castlevania Legends? Because Konami probably doesn't want to allow it, for whatever reason they have. Same reason for the other games you mention - if the parent company doesn't want to license the game again, Nintendo can do squat.
@Ichi@Luna_110
Contrary to popular belief, the SNES wasn't all that powerful, it only ran on a 3.58 MHz processor. Blargsnes still skips even on new 3ds, hacks and others like them cause the machine to run in ways that cause problems. If Nintendo really wanted to they could create a emulator for the older 3ds.
Back on to the subject of this thread, if a game is already on Wiiu VC or Wii VC I don't see why they would need to license it again since if they didn't have the license it would be removed like the tmnt 2 NES game and Tetris.
@Ichi
So what?! From the way you talk there no way NES or any other VC could possibly be emulated on 3ds. So what if a feature shuts down part of the system (no one complained about ds games soft resetting or smash and mh4 doing the same). Do you know what a cash grab is? We still support VC for 3ds but only if you spend more money on our slightly more powerful model to get access to them. No one wants to buy NES games they thought so why are the minis sold out everywhere?' Tge mighty Nintendo upstaged by their rival Sega with their 3D games! It's stupid to argue this on a Nintendo fansite, obviously Nintendo can do no wrong here!
Ok @Ichi , explain why 268 MHz is not good enough to emulate a machine that only ran off a 3.5 Mhz processor. That's 76x more powerful than the SNES! 3D rendering is more consuming than 2d sprites. But they are not being 100% truthful.
I've been told the VC is like a burrito, the game is the filling and the VC emu is the tortilla. It's saved to the memory card so for all intents it's like a game cart, and is read off of it.
@Ichi
Have you not seen video of hackers running them on old models? They run near flawlessly. Nintendo should say to its VC team get it to run on all models and they would have found a solution. Hacked emulators don't run as well as official.
Even then there are some problems of your emu isn't good enough (mm legacy mm5 comes to mind)
@shaneoh
Yes but konami and capcom still support the SNES VC, so it stands to reason they wouldn't mind putting more on old 3ds too. Afterall it's just rom dumps not like it's anything special like rby Pokemon VC.
No wait a minute @shaneoh why not for example release bayou Billy and star tropics on 3ds since they are on wiiu? As I said earlier if they had lost the license then they would be removed.
Star Tropics is first party, why it isn't on the 3DS, I don't know. Bayou Billy is third party which means it's up to Konami to get it released on the 3DS.
