I completed it, but it wasn't a pleasant experience. Never again.

I'm going to get this soon. I heard it's hard, and I LOVE a challenge.

Be prepared. It isn't necessarily hard for the right reasons.

I just downloaded it. It's great! And although I haven't gotten to level 3 yet, it seems quite easy... I hope it gets more challenging as I progress.

Yes, I made my last restore point right at the first boss battle of 6-4. I'd get killed by the second boss most often but I wanted to leave the restore point there in case I wanted to easily fight all three bosses without going through the game again.

The last jump in 3-2 is when the game gets hard. Be prepared for many more jumps like it is all I can say!

But it is a great game.

NWR: 9/10

They loved: Splendid gameplay, great soundtrack, great presentation (for it's time), and save states.

They disliked: Flying enemies are cheap, and even with save states it's still pretty brutal.

I've already fond that. Although I haven't played it much, so I haven't beaten it yet. I should beat it this weekend. :)

Finally beat this game for the first time. Incredible feeling. Only allowed myself one save state, before the final boss. (Most of you know why that is...)

Everything else I just forced my way through. Seriously brutal game, but there's always a way through. I'm really glad I finally did this (mostly) properly.

I never could beat Ninja Gaiden. Although, NES never had save states. D:

I did the same regarding the restore point/save state, and i absolutely agree that there was a tremendous feeling of gamer-satisfaction to finally beat the game after 25 years. :)

Fun fact for those who don't already know it: As Phil alluded to, when you're killed by the final boss, you go all the way back to Stage 6-1. I recently read that apparently this was a glitch during the original development of the game, but the designers decided to leave it that way for the final game! :O

Just today, I did it...

I beat Ninja gaiden on my second playthrough, without ANY restore points. It was VERY, VERY hard though... Mostly the final form of the final boss (The second form isn't THAT hard, just slash at his flames and they explode) due to his stupid blades being tossed at you like crazy. It was a pain...

I beat this without save states, but I died at least a few hundred times...maybe more?

I fought the urge to save state in Level 6. I know that if I beat it with save stating it would bother me and I'd wind up going at it again without them.

Now I can ignore this game forever.
