Love SMB, Balloon Fight, and Yoshi. I like the original Zelda, but quite as much as those mentioned previously. The same goes for Metroid in my opinion. Metroid and Zelda aren't bad, I was just never too keen on the originals. I think that Ice Climber and DK Jr are interesting, but a bit too clunky feeling to me. Zelda II and NES Open Tournament Golf are kinda meh for me. I really don't know what to think of Wrecking Crew as I honestly have no clue what I'm doing, but I will say as I was aimlessly running around beating on things and running from skeleton people, I was mildly entertained.

@komicturtle92
Agreed. I had never played Balloon Fighter before, but it is easily one of my favorites of the set.

Yoshi: Really fun puzzle game imo. Glad they included a puzzle game. Hope they add 2-player multiplayer to it.
Super Mario Bros: Classic game! Still fun. Though, can't wait till they add the restore point feature so I can get further in it. lol.
Metroid: Another classic. And another one I can't wait till they add the restore fuction too.
Zelda: I like it, but, ditto my comments of the last two games.
Zelda 2: I actually like Zelda 2 better then Zelda 1. Ditto my restore fuction comment though.
Ice Climbers: This is a hard game, but kind of neat.
Balloon Fight: Kind of fun.
Donkey Kong: Its OK.
NES Open: My least favorite of the games. Just can't get into this one.
Wrecking Crew: Neat game. The regular game is fun and the level creator was a suprise! Looking forward to trying that out again.

So really NES Open is the only one I don't like. Having a lot of fun with these games. Though, I do seem to play Super Mario Bros, Yoshi, Zelda 2, and Metroid the most!

I"m glad you're enjoying Zelda 2! It's one of my favorite NES sequels And Ice Climber (not CLIMBERS are so many people keep writing, lol) is an awesome game, for the longest time it, along with Zelda 1 and SMB, were my only NES games back in the day so I am real partial to those 3 titles Oh, and about the restore function... While it is temporarily not available, if you simply hit HOME during gameplay and quit the game it WILL resume where you last played anyway. Try it! And have fun...

Super Mario Bros. - I have it on my Wii but it's still nice to play some Super Mario Bros. on the go.
The Legend of Zelda - I have this on my Wii too but I prefer playing it on my 3DS, never completed before.
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link - Got first laughs from Ganon when I died in that temple (noticed where the SSB Temple stage came from), have to practice a little but it has been fun to try.
EDIT: Those guys with swords and shields are annoying! Got past the first one and once killed the second one but then I went and died to that red guy which moves like Hammer Bro, now I can't get past that sword guy the second time...
Metroid - I have played this game many times but never owned it before and I still forgot where to find those Missiles but found them pretty quickly. Trying to make a map now with the Game Notes so I won't be too lost, the places look all the same to me.
Ice Climbers - Nice game but I sometimes kill myself 'cause of the jumping controls...
NES Open Tournament Golf - Nice looking game for NES, haven't played that much yet but it seemed funny (almost got a hole-in-one by the accident). At first I forgot to push A the second time as the gauge dropped so much faster than in Golf games I have played before.
(Mario &) Yoshi - Not so good at this game but it's a good game to spend some time.
Donkey Kong Jr. - Tried few times and kept killing myself in stage 2 xD I'm always trying to jump from the rope but it doesn't work in this game, I always drop to the bottom and die. I've played too much Donkey Kong (GB) so I don't remember these things.
Balloon Fight - I remember playing this as a child when I was visiting my friend. It was so fun to play with 2 players. And it is still even with only one player.
Wrecking Crew - Haven't really gotten into this game yet. Going to try creating a level today.

Super Mario Bros: It is a classic, but it sure shows its age. A lot.
Zelda: I feel it's awkward to control. Maybe it's just the 3DS D-Pad, but my hand gets sore after a while.
Zelda 2: I'm actually really enjoying it so far. It's not as bad as everyone says it is at all.
Metroid: This game is very unforgiving, but it's still a ton of fun to play.
Wrecking Crew: I wasn't expecting much, but it's very enjoyable.
Yoshi: I actually like this one a lot. I don't know why everyone hates it, I find it addictive.
Ice Climbers: Played it once and still haven't got back to it.
Donkey Kong Jr.: Very slow paced game.
Balloon Fight: Hard to control the guy, but it's pretty fun.
NES Golf: This is probably my least favorite of the games, it's just.... bad.

Now for the Opinion of a forth brony.
1.)Legend of Zelda
Seems nice enough but differently need to find a guide for this one
2.)Zelda II
Not sure what to make of this one
3.)NES Open
WTF am I doing wrong
4.)Metroid
Seems like a challenging game might complete it one time or another.
5.)Super Mario Bros
My first time ever playing this game or any Mario platforma for that matter but glad I put it off it was boring as anything.
6.)Mario & Yoshi
A boring puzzeller & an early game from Game Freak.
7.)
Donkey Kong jr seems fun enouth
8.)Ballon fight.
Frustrating yet fun
9.)Ice Climbers.
Physics a bit wonkey here
10.)Wrecking crew
fun puzzler with challenging puzzles here.

The thing is Nintendo only released them because the 3DS had an early price cut & they proably would not need that if they hadent bothered with the stupi DSi in the first place.

Alright, I played all of 'em, so let's give a quick opinion:

Super Mario Bros:
It's okay, but the controls are a bit hard. I need to master them, but still, an amazing game.

The Legend Of Zelda:
One of my favorite NES games. Everything here is great. 'Nuff said.

Metroid:
I do like this one, but I'm already lost in the fifth room.

Yoshi:
It's so damn addicting! Maybe my favorite from this selection!

NES Open Golf Tournement:
Am I just bad at this game, or does it not work really well? It's frustating for me.

Zelda II: Adventure Of Link:
I didn't like this in my early childhood, but this is a great game to play.

Ice Climber:
It just doesn't feel right, I can't climb and the controls are horrible.

Balloon Fight:
This is another fun one! I played this as a little kid with my friend all the time!

Wrecking Crew:
It's good!

Donkey Kong Jr:
I do like it, actually.

Ponies will take over the world. Just deal with it.

Totally agree with Terave about Mario & Yoshi, it's really addictive, I've spent most time on it so far!

I like Yoshi (never played this one and its a nice addicting puzzle game) , Super Mario Bros (still holds up well today) and Golf (not a bad time waster, but I wouldn't pay money for it). The rest are meh. Good in their day but too archaic for me nowadays. Why would I wanna get frustrated playing Metroid / Zelda when I can be playing Deus Ex?

What's this bit for again?

DK is slow, and it's ridiculous that Diddy dies when he only falls two feet; we're so used to Mario, who can jump more than 10 feet into the air and be perfectly fine when he lands back on ground.
But I can't complain, for these games are free and there are more GBA games on the way, which will probably be way better.unless they don't include Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga...

Frustrating?? That's part of the game's charm and difficulty level! that's ice you're jumping on!!! LOL. OMG. For real, people. You guys make me laugh. Ice Climber is a AMAZING game. I guess kids nowadays just don't get the classics

It might be worth pointing out that just because a game is old, it doesn't make it a classic. Yoshi is to the NES as Metroid other M is to the Wii. Some people love it, some people hate, and everyone's reasons are valid.

I think I'll beat the Zelda's first, then move onto Metroid.
Playing Zelda 2 makes me wish I had Dragons Quest on the 3DS XD

Donkey Kong Jr. should have been replaced by Donkey Kong Classics.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Buster13

Due to my university's crappy Wi-Fi, I was only able to download half of them, but here's my thoughts anyway.

The Legend of Zelda- I managed to beat one temple, and while it is good enough, having Link's Awekening DX on the same system make the game feel somewhat antiquated.

Zelda II- This, on the other hand, feels very fresh in comparison. The grinding is a bit annoying, and returning t Zelda's corpse every time you game over is annoying, but still an interesting game. And on a portable, it feels almost like a lost GBC game.

Metroid- While I'm sure the game's open ended world felt almost revolutionary back in the day, by today's standards exploring the huge map just feels almost tedious. Yes, you can find new weapons and make progress, and the fact you don't know what you're making progress toward is probably the point of the game. but it can get frustrating. For example, at one point I came across a red door that my shots wouldn't open, so I figured "I must need something stronger!" so I turned around, started searching and eventually found some missiles. After trudging my way up those vertical hallways, through the lava(?) pits, I finally reached the door again, unleashed a missile, and nothing. So now not only do I have to find a different weapon and hope that that is the one to open it, but also I have these missiles that I don't know what to do with. And I'm sure there are gonna be some old-school gamers laughing at my stupidity, but this game's explorative nature doesn't sit well by today's standards.

Wrecking Crew- I've only reached about phase 20,and save for a few levels in which if you get knocked off, you become trapped on the bottom floor, and have to wait for a fireball to kill you, this game is probably the biggest surprise of the bunch. (I realize Select operates like a reset button, but not on my high score it doesn't)

Yoshi- At first I really didn't like this one, it was dreadfully easy to the point of boredom. However, once you clear a few rows and the game speeds up it can get pretty intense. As a puzzle game, It's not as good as say Tetris or Puyo-Pop, but it's better than Columns.

Zelda 2 is easily my favorite of the lot, but I was pleasantly surprised by NES Open Tournament Golf. And of course it's nice being able to finally play SMB1 without having to deal with HDTV lag. :3

@Buster13 - You have to use 5 missiles to open red doors. It's hard to know in original Metroid as nothing happens when you hit it first 4 times. In Super Metroid the door flashes when you shoot it so you know that you need more than 1 missile.

It's its, not it's.

Maybe it's because I'm used to Mario Golf and Wii Sports Golf, but the mechanics in this game aren't working for me, either. You are not alone.

NES Open Tournament Golf is my least favorite Ambassador game. My favorites are Super Mario Bros. and the Zelda games (expecially the original Zelda). I like Yoshi, Ice Climber, Donkey Kong Jr., Metroid, and Balloon Fight, too. Wrecking Crew is.... meh.

I'm back (for the moment)!

Creating charm and challenge through stuff like level design and smart enemies is one thing (although that can also be taken too far), but the basic gameplay needs to work right. Just because you're walking on ice (which only occurs in small sections, anyway) doesn't mean your jumping should be all screwed up. Jumping in Ice Climber gives you hardly any momentum nor mid-air control, plus the moving clouds have some collision detection problems. D.K. Jr. is flat out broken, as you're as slow as a sloth and can't jump more than a foot in the air.

These are video games, not real life. You're supposed to be able to jump multiple times your own height and have impeccable physics-defying mid-air control.

So I finally tried Yoshi. I love it.
This is honestly one of the games I expected to hate, but I gave it a chance and ended up playing it for 30 minutes. It's really cute and addicting. A hidden gem for me. Good thing this was included in the free ambassador games or else I probably would have never gotten it. Boy I would have missed out.
The only game I actually hate is DK JR. It sucks. You can barely jump, every little fall kills you, and it's too slow. I really wish Nintendo included something other than this game. I'll probably just delete it.
I can't figure out how to play the Golf one...
Ice Climbers is pretty unfair because of the jump. It's a nice little game, but I'll never play it more than 10 minutes. It gets too frustrating too quick because of something as basic as the jump.
As for the rest I love them. Except Metroid and Zelda ll because I haven't played them yet. Can't wait to though.
Over all this was a incredibly nice thing of Nintendo to do.

pikku

Wrecking Crew and Yoshi really surprised me with how fun and addicting they are. In fact, they may be my favorite of the bunch. Besides, Metroid/Zelda/mario of course, but seriously they are really great. Wrecking crew is kinda like a more basic version of Donkey Kong '84, which by extension is an older version of Mario vs. Donkey Kong, and it's really addicting, lol. Yoshi is simple, but immediately addicting. There's a lot of skill involved, actually. it's just plain fun to play. The music is also charming and fun. Actually, even Golf is fun, and I was expecting that to be complete and utter crap, lol. I'm glad these were free, because I never would've bought Wrecking Crew, Yoshi, or Golf otherwise.

Check out the specific game thread to find out how to play. I wish they had included full instruction manuals instead of just listing the controls.
