i never played metroid2 , so what i wonder is does it look good on a game boy color ? Is the original cartridge worth it for color bliss ?! Can you have a red samus and some nice color mixtures ? Some gb games on the gb color really look beautiful ... Just wondering , because the only negative thing in VC games of the gb for the 3Ds i see of now is the non existent option for a proper color mode ....
I can honestly say without a doubt Return of Samus is better than the original. I became a fan with this game. Then when Super Metroid came out it turned into an obsession.

Metroid II is not a GBC game, and since it was released before there was a GBC, there is not an "enhanced" mode (like DK '94) as far as i know.
so all you bronies , please read more careful ... I asked how it would look on a game boy color or GBA. You know in actually COLOR ? ringing a bell ? Well gargoyles quest is an older GB game as well. But you can still get different colors into it and it looks nicely with some setups( i like the orange or blue color scheme). So what about metroid2 ? Looks good with color schemes or are you all stuck on your 3Ds vc platform? Honestly black and white is not my case .... Anyone still got the original cartridge ? Wondering how much it will cost nowadays in used market. hum ...

I have the original cart, but have not played it on a GBC; to my knowledge it does not have any color options, someone else may be able to better confirm.
I've seen the cart go for $15-$20 at Gamestop as recently as within the past year, but it is usually very hard to find (even eBay seems to have few listings for it).
This is a video of someone playing it on Game Boy Player for Gamecube. Unlike most Game Boy games, Metroid II has a unique color palette designed for it if you play it on GBC / Super Game Boy / or Game Boy Player, so it looks a little better, though not as good as a GBC game.
While I won't link to it on NL for obvious reasons, there are projects to patch the game to have much more color, making it easier to tell one area from the next. It looks pretty good.
I can see getting Metroid 2 and Kid Icarus 2 when it hits, but in both cases to me they're inferior to the originals. M2 while it added more staple items was kind of a mess in design. There were many wide areas that looked so similar it got that confusing feel of Metroid1 but worse, also the design of popping off random metroids to lower deadly water in areas or other stuff to go deeper just felt canned and awkward as stuff could be easily missed as they hadn't thought of a map until the SNES game (which really is the BEST of the 2D Metroid titles still.) Kid Icarus 2 on the other hand was just too similar to the original, but didn't flow as fun as the first and got a little wonky in the dungeon stages. Either way both are still fine games, and I'd pop the $5/ea on them just to have them, not sure I'd put a lot of effort but I'd hit them here and there for sure.

I actually liked both Metroid 2 and the gameboy Kid Icarus better than the originals. Probably because they were easier but at least I wasn't frustrated into insanity. They were alot more beginner friendly.

Actually, I think most, if not all, Game Boy games can have their various shades of gray converted to various colors when played on a GBC or GBA (I've done it, myself). It's similar to how they colorize old black and white movies but on a much more limited scale. That's to what Stereoman is referring.
Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

All GB games can be played with random color palettes assigned to them, but in the GBC / SGB / GBP hardware is a palette specifically designed for Metroid II (and a few other games). At least, that's what I've read. I haven't played a GB game on SGB in ages.
Sweet! hopefully Metroid 2 gets released in America soon!

Metroid 2 can be played in colour on GBC or GBA. I have the cartridge and the areas are still confusing because the background is always black and the walls are always blue. All the enemies are red or orange and samus is a mixture of both.
