Ok so I downloaded Dr. Wily's Revenge when it first came out on the VC and tried to play it a few times and honestly I wasn't a big fan of it. Now I enjoy the NES games alot and beat every single one of them but Mega Man 6 (Not that its hard or anything just more like I never got around too it).

Anyway my problem I was having with Dr Wily's Revenge was for one thing it seemed like Mega Man took alot more damage from enemies in that one then the NES games and it felt like he had no room to make jumps, if felt like I would smack his head on the ceilings is the best way I can describe it.

Anyway I was wondering should I give the other GB Mega Man games a try even though I didn't like Dr. Wily's Revenge or should I just wait for Mega Man V?

Try Mega Man IV. It's easily on par with the best NES games, IMO. I wouldn't bother with I or II unless you're a superfan. III is pretty good, but of the available ones, IV is the best.

Personally I think it's better than the last three NES games.

If you can only get one game I suggest you wait this thursday to try Mega Man V which is a marginally easier title than IV but also features all new bosses. MMIV is a blast to play sure and does not contain the strict difficulty of the first, but If I were in your position, I'd go with the one that offers something new. That said, MMIV is still worth the purchase for the Mega Man killer fight and the Wily Iron giant fight alone. Definitely get this if you have money to spare from MMV, plus it's only $3 which is a very good price for this game.

One gripe I have about MMV releasing on the e shop is that the Super Gameboy Borders will not be supported as will the color palettes that will go with it.

Am I the only one that thinks the game looks better without those half-butted palettes? They were tints more than anything. Instead of playing the game in black and white, you'd play it in black and blue, black and purple, black and green...

The art was definitely designed without color in mind, and when they added it they did so with what feels like no regard for what we were actually looking at. Granted, it would be nice to have an option, but if we either get the all-color version or the no-color version, I'll take no color for sure.

Pretty much every Super Game Boy game did that.
From what I've read, it most came from a technical limitation of the SGB itself. As the GB's video was feed to the SNES VRAM, the SGB could overlay a color palette on the monochrome source. But it would be too time-consuming to update the colors on scrolling games, so multi-color screens only really worked on still screens.
Unsure if it had to overlay the whole image of if they could've had separate colors for the background and sprites.
(I know when GBC plays a monochrome GB game, it gives the sprites a contrasting color scheme.
That has the side-effect of inadvertent spoilers in some games. Like if you play the monochrome version of Link's Awakening on a GBC/GBA, you can suddenly see the living Armos status from the non-living.)

On SGB: So... from what I've seen, Pokemon Yellow had GBC support to the extent that it could load the SGB palettes on a GBC?
(nice feature but I guess they only did that because it was one of the last games not developed for the GBC specifically but they didn't want to take the time to fully GBC-color it?)

Finally today is the day. After all these years I finally get to play Mega Man V on GB. Only 15 minutes to go.

@Philip_J_Reed: Well I downloaded it and did a quick run through of the stages and I have to say I am really enjoying it. It's been years since I played a new Mega Man not counting fan games. I will be able to delve into it some more tonight before bed so I am hoping to be able to tackle some of the bosses. I will give a better opinion after that for sure but I am enjoying this one alot more then Dr Wily's Revenge.

Ok had some more time to put into Mega Man V. I have decide to start with Mercury (just figure I start with him) and I have to say this feels more like a Mega Man game. As I said it's refreashing to play a new Mega Man game. Haven't got to Mercury yet cause I am still working my way through the stage, but I am getting a little further each time I play.

One thing I have to say about the stardroids is that their weakness chain is the oddest one out of the series. I mean, you can't go in a full loop on your first encounter like most games in the series since one of the main weaknesses of the standard Stardroid comes from a "Fortress" boss Terra. That and the weaknesses of two bosses from the first batch can only be obtained from the second batch of the Stardroids. Nothing that ruins the fun of the game but I thought it was something worth mentioning. All of them are a piece of cake anyway since alot of them follow a definitive pattern.

Also regarding the SGB options, the games that supported the add-on was given their own "unique" palette outside the usual color combinations. Sure it isn't even gbc level vibrant but it just made the blue bomber stand out imo. Plus, that Border looks snazzy.

I beat MMV for the first time ever and was sufficiently wowed. It's easily up there with the series' best like 2, 3, 9, and IV.

Such a shame it has remained in obscurity for so long.

Alright Mercury is down and I am on ward to Neptune.

So far really enjoying this one and so far it looks like it will rank up there with Mega Man 2 (NES) and 3 (NES) and one of my favorite Mega Mans. One thing I noticed is that the hitboxes for stuff like the spikes and the ceiling in Mercury's stage seemed a bit off. I mean I didn't touch them I was off by like a hair but it still counted as like I touched the spike or ceiling. Other then that like I said I am enjoying it. The Mercury battle was alot of fun and I can't wait to take on the other Stardroids.

Mega Man IV for the GameBoy was actually the first Mega Man game I ever owned (if it wasn't Mega Man X)
I remember I luckily found some toy store a few months later still had a copy of III, so I got that as well.
Then luckily there was some massive liquidation sale in town shortly thereafter where I managed to get the first two games. (even though it was like damn, sucks being a kid and can't buy everything. Even as an adult that'd be like game heaven. I mean seriously that place seemed like had nearly every out-of-print game ever, unused. I remember passing up other worthy choices like Adventure Island II and Belmont's Revenge. You don't want just a few games, you want them all!
I think I left that place with Claymates for the SNES as well (fun game, but I think it's kind of uncommon now).
However, I think the only MM games I ever actually finished were the first two Game Boy games as well as NES 2 (but only the easy "normal" mode). I can't remember if I ever legit finished the first NES game. (without using infinite lives, though I only used it to defeat the Yellow Devil without the pause glitch, if I did). I finished on Mega Drive (or similar) but that isn't as much of an accomplishment because that port has huge slowdown.

@Philip_J_Reed: So when can we expect your review of Mega Man V? Even though I bought it I really enjoy reading your reviews especially your Mega Man ones.

Soon! I just submitted it. I had some other things I had to take care of as well, so I apologize for the delay, but it's coming!

Alright time for an update. Beat the first four Stardroids and Dark Moon. Also defeated Pluto. Really enjoying this game alot.

One question though I picked up the mega arm improvements from Dr Light's lab and the energy balancer is there anything else that I should be saving my Pchips for?

The item grabber and the multi-hit Mega Arm, for sure.

Everything else you can take or leave, but those two are essential, in my opinion.
