Pro-tip: DO NOT USE THE START BUTTON TO DASH.

Change the setting so that you dash with down+A (same as the slide in the classic series) or double tapping a direction. The latter is best for jumps, the former is best for reactions. But do not use start!

...having said that, yes, button mapping would have helped substantially with this.

@Chicken Yeah, that's basically the methods I use when Dashing, also I'm a bit relieved that they took out the dash wall jumps in the game and relegated that to the Leg-Parts. I am now at Sigma's fortress and so far aside from two original bosses, I don't see much change from the SNES counterparts... At least Dr Wily's revenge threw in new elements in the stages and offered a different fortress stage, but I'm not feeling Xtreme at all. I'll have to complete the Extreme mode to get some final judgement though.

Also, I see MMII is coming next week and I'm sure @Chicken will review it. Try to go easy on it okay, at least the composition(not the instruments) was nice.

MMII next week!? Goodness. :/ Well, at least we're getting the two weakest out of the way first. Where did you see that, out of curiosity?

@Cicken_Brutus Link So it seems Capcom is saving the best for last. As for MMII, I'll have to wait for a sale to get it. I already have two Carts of it on the Gameboy and it's bad enough for a MM fan like myself to hold off. As for MMIII, I'm indifferent. It plays better than the first and I don't see it as hard as most people say but out of the whole GB series, this one does not stand out to me.

MM 2 & 3 worth the buy ?

I'm looking forward to III since I haven't played that one in ages. I don't recall it being particularly great, but it's a huge improvement on II.

If you're looking for a bunch of Mega Man titles, there's something to enjoy in all of them. If you just want to cherry pick, I'd say wait for IV and V.

Haha, Mega Man II. Bought it roughly an hour ago and completed it in one go with maxed out lives by the end. That was possibly the easiest game I ever played.

Currently Playing: Yakuza Kiwami 2 (SD)

The games are sold at $3.00, is that price a special ?

Decided to get Mega Man III today. The Mega Man 4 stage select theme sounds great on here, and is one of the things I remembered most fondly from what little I've played of it. Enjoying it so far, but the Game Boy-ness takes a little getting used to. I also noticed an odd thing about jumping. Mega Man doesn't stop immediately when you let off the D-pad/circle pad. If you jump and tap forward, he'll go a bit farther than he would on the NES games because of his momentum. It tripped me up a couple times, but I think I've gotten used to it now. Is this a problem on all the Gameboy Mega Man games? I'd pick up MM II as well, but it seems to be the worst one according to.....well, almost everyone.

That is all.

Yes. It's not a huge problem or anything, but it does take some getting used to. The Game Boy games all seem to have taken the physics from Dr. Wily's Revenge and never bothered to fine-tune them. It's kind of a shame because the NES games were fine-tuning up to the very end, but it's nothing insurmountable. In fact that mid-air "drift" seems to be taken into account in the stage design by Mega Man V.

I was going to have the MMII review done tonight, but I ended up playing with MMIII a lot longer than I expected to. I have to admit, III is a better game than I was giving it credit for. I think in the past it failed to stand out to me because I was comparing it to IV and V. On its own merits, it's pretty great.

I remember when I last played I exploited the knock-back in Dust Man's stage. In mid-air, turn Mega Man around so he gets knocked forward in the enemy-spawning pits.
Although the crushing platforms are FAR more picky on the Game Boy than the NES. Pretty sure I've died at least once when Mega Man's ARM hit the pistons. I think on the NES you can actually touch them to some extent without exploding.

I grew up playing the Game Boy Mega Man games before trying the NES ones, so you can imagine me trying to get used to the different jump/physics system the other way round . First time I played an NES Mega Man game I wondered why the screen size was so large. It does take some time to acclimatise from one to another but once you get back into the swing of it I find it works well for each system.

@Philip_J_Reed - Glad to hear you're enjoying III. Being my favourite of the GB series (Given 3/4 on the NES are my favourites) I'm anxious to see it released here in Europe (along with the other 5 of course :3).

Not to rub it in or anything, but I'm surprised EU isn't getting them at the same time as we are. Hopefully it won't be too much of a wait.

I'm working on the review now, but I don't think it's a spoiler to say that it will score well. (I'm also really liking Punk. I don't know why the fight with him never stood out to me before, but it's extremely fun.)

After reading the review and watching the short video posted on said review, I decided I'm going to skip Mega Man II. Something about it just seems really off, as was basically stated in the review. After playing the NES games to death, the problems in this one stick out like a sore thumb. Not to mention the songs, at least the original versions, sound bland and not at all as catchy as most of the NES tunes. Even the sound effects were off a bit. However, I've come to really appreciate Mega Man III as a good GB Mega Man offering. I'm looking forward to IV and V especially now, since I was pleased with III. I may get Dr. Wily's Revenge at some point too, as the overall opinion on that one seems decent.

I'm just happy that we are getting them. Besides those games and Harvest Moon 3 (I believe?) there isn't anything else on the release schedule GB/GBC-wise.

Speaking of Punk, I really do like the weapon you get from him (Screw Crusher). Might be my favorite weapon of the GB games, right behind the Ballade Cracker and the Grab Buster. It just feels good to spam it all over the place. Might consider rebuying MMIII, but I can only get one more GB game, and that's the 4th one since all my carts are JPN releases and MMIV is story heavy.

It's so weird how much better Mega Man IV is than Mega Man 4. Not that I'm complaining, MM4 is one of my least favorite Mega Man games and MMIV is one of my personal faves.

@SparkOfSpirit Mega Man 4 is actually one of my favorites in the series. To each their own, I suppose.

Mega Man IV is shaping up to be even better than III from what I've played so far. The songs carried over from the NES sound good, and some of them come pretty close to the original versions. The P-chips are a welcome addition and collecting them is always like finding a little present, much like the Screws from other games in the series. The altered stage designs makes them feel fresh again, as was the same for III. It seems I should have taken a deeper look into the Gameboy games a long time ago. They are surprisingly good, though I have yet to play all of them.

Ok so I downloaded Dr. Wily's Revenge when it first came out on the VC and tried to play it a few times and honestly I wasn't a big fan of it. Now I enjoy the NES games alot and beat every single one of them but Mega Man 6 (Not that its hard or anything just more like I never got around too it).

Anyway my problem I was having with Dr Wily's Revenge was for one thing it seemed like Mega Man took alot more damage from enemies in that one then the NES games and it felt like he had no room to make jumps, if felt like I would smack his head on the ceilings is the best way I can describe it.

Anyway I was wondering should I give the other GB Mega Man games a try even though I didn't like Dr. Wily's Revenge or should I just wait for Mega Man V?
