I don't know where you heard that, but generally people say Dr. Wily's Revenge and Mega Man V are the best portable games. Mega Man II and III took a lot more from the level designs in their NES counterparts so it made them a lot less original. Not to mention the atrocious music in Mega Man II.....
I think he was referring to the console titles. At least I hope he was!

Um dude I was talking about Mega Man II on NES and Mega Man III on NES not their Game Boy counterparts. That's what this whole topic is about. Mega Man's NES titles.

Well finished it tonight unfortunately I couldn't do a buster only run cause of the turret bosses in Wily's castle. Other than that it was buster only. I only died four times too. Metalman, the stupid beams in Quickman's stage, the Dragon, and Wily's spaceship. Quite pleased with myself indeed. Now going to see if I can make it a no death run.

It was my first time playing this game, so Wily's spaceship was really tough for me. Died a lot of times too. Now I can try all over again to see how I've improved.
Mega Man II is great, but I find that I enjoy replaying the first game much more. The levels are just more enjoyable - and having a meaningless score mechanic doesn't take away from that.

I'm starting to feel that too. Quite a few stages in MM2 feel like a grind to me, especially Heatman, Crashman and Metalman. In Megaman 1, the only stage which isn't fun to complete for me is Elec Man (and on some days, Ice Man). The MM2 bosses are far, far better though
always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)
The restore points are making it easy for me to practice my Kirby run...but danged if I'm not stuck on one stage. If anyone can figure out how to reliably make it through Wood Man's stage using only the Atomic Fire, you'll be my hero. Right now you need to rely on one of the Hot Dogs dropping a large weapon energy, and then be able to mine the small birds back to a more or less full charge without getting killed or wasting all your ammo.
So is there anyway to beat the turret boss in Wily's castle using the buster or can you only use crash bombs against them?
Only Crash Bombs...but that's okay. Your buster only run counts if that's the only place you use a weapon! (and the final final boss, obv.) Also, if you can beat both Wily machine forms with just the buster, my hat comes off to you! Form 2 is a nightmare!
BY THE WAY if anyone can help me with doing Wood Man's stage using only Atomic Fire, I'll give you a nice shoutout in the video. HOORAY
@Philip_J_Reed: Sorry man I have never tried to do the Wood Man stage using Atomic Fire, I might have to try that some day. The only thing I know is that Woodman dies in one hit from the fully charged up Atomic Fire. I will try that here sometime and let you know how I do.
And yes I did beat the Wily ship both forms with the buster only but I wont lie it took me all four of my E tanks to do it.

@Phil if you don't mind bending the rules a little bit, you can use the Item #1 (technically earned after Heat Man's stage) to tank a hit from the Hot Dog and jump over it. It definitely works for the first one, but I'm not sure about the 2nd and 3rd.
I dunno if it's possible to tank and jump over a Hot Dog without the Item#1 though, usually Megaman's damage animation will prevent you from landing on anything solid.

This brings up a good point...I'm trying to do this on the more difficult setting, where he takes 2 fully charged hits. If I have to I'll do the easier setting, but hopefully I can avoid it!

If it comes down to it, that's a definite solution. Thank you! Will try to avoid it, but yeah, at least it's a backup.

Sorry, I just assumed you were talking about the GB games because they have Roman Numerals instead of numbers. Mega Man 3 vs. Mega Man III etc.
I'll be looking forward to seeing your Kirby run Chicken Brutus, your videos are quite entertaining. I might try a Kirby run of the first Mega Man myself now that it's available on the eShop.

I just bought Mega Man 2 on 3DS VC and it's very good. I beat the Robot Masters and I am currently on the 1st Wily Castle stage. I forgot about Mega Man II on GB, but from how you guys make it sound it must not be very good. I should start using numbers instead of Roman numerals I guess.

I have always used the Roman numerals for the Megaman games. The title screens of the NES games use Roman numerals as well so I dont see where the confusion is. The only one I know that is like that is when people talk about Megaman 5 they usually use 5 for the NES game and V for the Gameboy game since that one is the most unique of the MM series.
Well both the Gameboy games and the NES games are named Mega Man 2, 3, and 4 so generally people use Roman Numerals for the GB games but I could be wrong.
@ChickenBrutus
You weren't kidding, trying to do a Kirby run of Wood Man with the Atomic Fire is HARD. I find myself tanking a lot of hits to save ammo for the wolves. You really need to get lucky with the health/ammo drops.
When you get to the part of the stage where the birds drop eggs, I find that useful for grinding pickups.
