IT'S FINALLY HERE!

So who of you are definitely downloading this Gameboy classic? I haven't been able to complete the original on the Wii VC yet, but I'm still tempted to purchase this very soon. For those of you who have already been playing OMaM, what have your impressions been?

@LordOtakWiiU, did you not find the original Kid Icarus to be fun?

I have the GB cart, but seeing as i am a huge fan of classic Kid Icarus, i'll probably be downloading it anyway.

I did not find the original fun either. If they cranked the difficulty down a bit. By that I mean change the controls so I don't fall off a ledge while I collection zillions of hearts just to start it over again. Pressing down and going through the wall is stupid. Not that much of a problem in this game though.

I've only completed the first three levels so far, so this isn't my final conclusion on the game, but I think I'm going to have to agree with WaveBoy on which of the two is better (although for different reasons).

The games (both this and the first) are fun, but nothing exceptional, IMO. Because of the high difficulty, you do get a great sense of pride when you complete an area, and I think that's where most of the fun comes in. As for the gameplay itself, again it's fun, I just don't think it's anything really extraordinary. Since the first game is more difficult, and thus gives you a higher sense of pride when you win, that's why I think it surpasses this one.

Also, this game feels like more of the same. While other GB games tried to make their own mark on their respective series (the wacky oddities within the Mario Land games, the oddball cameos in Link's Awakening, or the more linear approach in Metroid II, which also happened to introduce the Varia Suit's shoulder pads, which have become commonplace in the series), this game doesn't feel like it's trying to set itself apart from the first all that much, which is a tad dissapointing.

@Just_Match, how's the replay value? Like it's predecessor, does OMaM provide any incentive to play through the game multiple times?

I believe it was possible to play through Kid Icarus a second time with everything you collected on your first run. Kind of like a New Game +. I guess there are multiple endings.

^That is correct.
Also, completely agreed that the original is better than OMaM; i like the GB game a lot, but i find it far too easy.

Got through the first dungeon. That boss was an @55. Died the first time, but I was careful the second go around and got through without much of a problem (even if it took forever, lol).

This is a great game, definitely equal to the first Kid Icarus! Love the levels, especially the fact that you can fall down and explore more instead of just dying the moment you fall off-screen like in the first game. Also, the life system helps you to preserve all the items and hearts that you've collected, at least until you get a game over (or if you're in a fortress). While the first game was awesome too, it was occasionally cheap with the difficulty: all those deaths due to falling (particularly in the underworld), and always losing your hard-earned hearts, issues which have thankfully been fixed in OMAM.

The music is also pretty catchy, particularly the first world and the fortress theme. The only thing I had a few doubts about was that you actually have to kill enough enemies in a stage to extend your lifebar, but with a little practice, it shouldn't be too hard to earn that extra energy.

Your parlor tricks don't amuse me, boy!

The health upgrades were handled the same way in the NES game, but I think the GB one is less strict on the required points. (Don't know for sure, but it definitely feels less strict!)

This was...uh...extremely easy. I laid down restore points every so often, but never actually had to load them once. I even figured I'd look up fortress maps if I needed them, and never did. Definitely feels like Kid Icarus Jr. Very good, but an enormous step down in difficulty. For better or worse.
