IT'S FINALLY HERE!

So who of you are definitely downloading this Gameboy classic? I haven't been able to complete the original on the Wii VC yet, but I'm still tempted to purchase this very soon. For those of you who have already been playing OMaM, what have your impressions been?

@LordOtakWiiU, did you not find the original Kid Icarus to be fun?

I have the GB cart, but seeing as i am a huge fan of classic Kid Icarus, i'll probably be downloading it anyway.

I did not find the original fun either. If they cranked the difficulty down a bit. By that I mean change the controls so I don't fall off a ledge while I collection zillions of hearts just to start it over again. Pressing down and going through the wall is stupid. Not that much of a problem in this game though.

Not a big fan of this one...It was still pretty decent and eveything, but the original for me completely elipses this one in every single way imaginable. Those endless scrolling underworld stages were a total snore. For me, it didn't come close to capturing the spirit and magical of th original KI either.

The sound effects in the 'NES'(Famicon version were different) version of Kid Icarus were so classic. The sound when Pit got hit was just so unique! :p

I got the original cart earlier this year, but I'll still get the game again just so I can have it on the 3DS and have a better, more convenient access to it.

Of Myths and Monsters is technically better than the original, because you can fall off the screen without dieing and Pit can flutter before landing from a jump to have a smooth landing. However, I think the difficulty is still sort of high. I would've beaten the game if not for that horrible minotaur boss in the first fortress. Seriously, he's got to be the hardest boss in the game even though he's just the first one. Whenever the next Kid Icarus game comes, the Minotaur should appear so Pit can complain at him for how hard of a boss he was and still is.

How does that make the game 'technically better'? :p To me it just destroys the emphasis on platforming and makes the underworld stage design an unchallenging annoying snore to play through. The emphasis instead this time around is placed on the mallet. I much prefer the fall to your death upwards scrolling underworld stages of the original. Plus, OMAM doesn't have The Reaper or Reapettes either so bluh. :p

I've only completed the first three levels so far, so this isn't my final conclusion on the game, but I think I'm going to have to agree with WaveBoy on which of the two is better (although for different reasons).

The games (both this and the first) are fun, but nothing exceptional, IMO. Because of the high difficulty, you do get a great sense of pride when you complete an area, and I think that's where most of the fun comes in. As for the gameplay itself, again it's fun, I just don't think it's anything really extraordinary. Since the first game is more difficult, and thus gives you a higher sense of pride when you win, that's why I think it surpasses this one.

Also, this game feels like more of the same. While other GB games tried to make their own mark on their respective series (the wacky oddities within the Mario Land games, the oddball cameos in Link's Awakening, or the more linear approach in Metroid II, which also happened to introduce the Varia Suit's shoulder pads, which have become commonplace in the series), this game doesn't feel like it's trying to set itself apart from the first all that much, which is a tad dissapointing.

@Just_Match, how's the replay value? Like it's predecessor, does OMaM provide any incentive to play through the game multiple times?

I don't think so... I don't think I am playing this again for a while (but that's only because Wario Land is coming up). What could you do on the first one?

I believe it was possible to play through Kid Icarus a second time with everything you collected on your first run. Kind of like a New Game +. I guess there are multiple endings.

^That is correct.
Also, completely agreed that the original is better than OMaM; i like the GB game a lot, but i find it far too easy.
