Topic: GBA and SNES games on the New 3DS?

I don't think that's a very good idea. Forcing consumers to double dip for a portable system that is already capable of running snes software. I understand the up sale if it's necessary, but where is the loyalty to the fan base?

I'll be honest: this would be a huge incentive to buy the new handheld for me.

It would be stupid for Nintendo to keep the GBA games exclusive on the 3DS Ambassador program for much longer. It has been three years. Nobody cares if you spent $80 on early access to 10 NES and 10 GBA games anymore. You can buy the 10 NES games for $50 now on the Eshop. That $30 of 10 GBA games if just not fair. Wouldn't it be enough for Ambassadors to not only have GBA games, but to also get 10 of them for the price of $30? They managed to port 10 GBA games to the 3DS within a few months without planning, so I would not see a reason why they could not make any more for the public.

This x1000. I don't care if it's a "Slap in the face to ambassadors", it's a slap in the face to those of us who couldn't get the 3DS when it launched. And before you give me that "You should've bought a 3DS at launch" crap, many people probably didn't have enough money for it (like me) or they weren't interested in the games library at the time.

Nah save it for the next handheld. People were told the 3DS was getting only ten GBA games, they should have bought it before the price cut.

I plan on getting the New 3DS, but I still wouldn't agree with this. It would be a huge backhanded slap to anyone who doesn't have $200 to buy a brand new 3DS, even though their current one is less than 3 years old. I don't support that kind of treatment to consumers. The New 3DS should offer an enhanced gameplay experience, but it should not offer experiences that are altogether unavailable on the old model.

That said, I would love to see SNES and GBA VC games on 3DS.

A) I'm not sure it's much of a slap when all ambassadors are "losing" is a very vague form of exclusivity; your games and your experiences with them aren't going to dissipate overnight. Besides, the games can be played on numerous other systems, including the bulk of them via the concurrent Wii U.
B) The standard 3DS might have the guns to run GBA games in general, but it most likely lacks the horsepower required to meet Nintendo's vision of what paid Virtual Console titles should offer.
C) It'll be closer to four years by the time the New 3DS is released worldwide and that's assuming GBA games actually come out around the time Nintendo theoretically announces them (see the 1 year+ gap between announcement and release on Wii U). I'd deem that more than a respectful period of "exclusivity".
D) Speaking of 3-4 years, that's how long it took for the GBA's successor, the DS, to be released following the former's launch. Granted, Nintendo positioned the DS as a third pillar, but it was a legitimate generation upgrade in every quantifiable sense beyond marketing. Either way, loyalists were expected to drop $200 on a new, fundamentally similar piece of hardware to play thousands of exclusive games. The New 3DS situation is tame by comparison.

Amazing how entitled a lot of you 3DS ambassadors act. You've had exclusive access to these games on 3DS for quite a while. Not wanting them to be released in the e-shop so anyone can play them is just selfishness at this point, pure and simple.

GBA VC games coming to any 3DS console would be a huge slap in the face to anyone on the Ambassador program so I think that should stay exclusive to them on portables. SNES I'd be fine with though.

Honestly some of you Ambassadors act as if they did you wrong when anyone with common sense knew the 3DS was way overpriced at launch, at this point as an Ambassador I just want GBA games on the 3DS couldn't care less about keeping them "Special".

I'm not an Ambassador, I just feel that reversing these kind of decisions can be dangerous. For example, I expect that if the Xbox One largely beats the PS4 in total sales at some points during its lifespan a system update will reverse the DRM setup back to how it was before the PS4 reveal (i.e. cannot play games without an internet connection and preowned games do not work).

Microsoft never do that. (The new activation system for Windows 8 that is more secure they didn't backport for example). If you have an example of them changing something like that with a shipping product I would be interested.

Sony does (Removal of OtherOS).

Smash Bros was also stated to not have DLC. Now it seems it is going to have both DLC and Amiibo.

Halo 2 online was removed for Xbox in 2010 and PC last year to force people to buy the Master Chief Collection for XB1 if they wanted the Halo 2 online multiplayer experience.

Are you equating the removal of an optional mode in an unsupported game from a previous generation that requires server cost/maintenance (in a single title, no less) to re-enabling DRM and drastically altering a console's OS? If so, Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo have all done this on far larger scales and with greater haste than the removal of Halo 2's online mode. Perceived motive is irrelevant as there are plenty of games made by the Big 3 that have no option whatsoever to continue using their online experiences.

I don't think it would be a slap to Ambassadors, after all, they had early access to it. It's been 3 years now...

Any ambassador who would feel happier with other people not being able to have the enjoyment of GBA games on their 3DS (particularly after he or she got to enjoy 10 of them for free for three years) deserves to be slapped in the face.

The Ambassadors content was never promised to remain exclusive. It was obvious it would eventually be made available for sale, just as we saw with the NES downloads that were also included.

The only thing surprising is that here we are several years later, and GBA downloads remain otherwise absent on the 3DS.

Obviously 3 years later they are still not released

I'm pretty sure that GBA games will be coming to the new 3DS....

A: We haven't seen any new Japanese 3DS VC titles since May 2014? Obviously something is behind this and hopefully in the works. I can't see NOE or NOA dropping the VC when the new 3DS rolls around, especially with the lack of western third party support.

B: M2 emulated the GBA Wii U VC titles, the same guys who did an amazing job with the SEGA 3D classic titles on the 3DS.

I'm an ambassador. I want SNES and GBA games available to everyone. Who cares if I get slapped in the face if they release the "exclusive games" to everyone. We all should have access to as much of Nintendo's game vault as possible. The more software that becomes available, the more successful Nintendo will be and the happier the Nintendo gamers will be. Let's do this thing!

Even if they do release them to everyone, the ambassadors still didn't have to pay for them.
