So does the screen shrink down to 'tiny town' when you set it to 1:1 like it does for GB VC games?
Somebody should compare one of the GBA Ambassader games on their 3DS in comparison to the same GBA game on their DS Lite. If there's any sign of weaker emulation i'll no doubt pass and score the GBA cart instead.

I think the screen is smaller than the DS ones. D:

The only GBA games that I play on the "Gameboy Micro" resolutions are Mario Kart Super Circuit and Zelda: Minish Cap.
The rest of them already look stunning.

I have my screen on maximum brightness and the GBA games still look much darker than anything else on my 3DS. Same with my sister.

Does fixing the resolution issue have any effect on it?

Oh yeah, it looks a lot brighter when it has the original resolution. Well, I'll still use the bigger sceen size even if it's a little darker, because I just can't stand the stamp-sized option ...

I honestly don't notice much difference and I damn sure ain't playing them in shrinky dink mode.
You people are awfully picky about your pixels. It seems like alot of trouble to go fishing around for cartridges when you've got the games right there for download.
If that's how you feel though then go for it.

I really don't get the big deal. Even if the colors are a little different and the screen is a little less dim, its still the same game and they all play great on the 3DS hardware. Yes, the different resolution means a slightly less sharp picture in full screen but it really isn't that big of a deal. At least not such a big deal where I feel like I MUST play these games on original hardware. I think Nintendo got it as close to perfect as they could possibly do when porting these over so I'm happy with them.

EDIT: @ Link: EXACTLY! People are being very picky over ultimately non-important things here...

They're a little more dull in color than they would be, say, on a DS lite, but they look similar to how they would have looked on a GBA really. I'm just glad we have em. They're a welcome addition to my huge 3DS home screen selection choices.

When I close my eyes, I see pixilated blood.

One cool thing with the ambassador program is that now every Nintendo handheld's games are on one system. You can get games for them all From original Gameboy all the way up to the current 3DS.
Isn't that more convenient than having to have separate handhelds for certain games or risk losing those tiny cartridges? So what If they aren't as crisp or sharp as you remember.
They're still quite playable and look tons better than they would on some crappy emulator.

ya I think I'll skip on all of these, and just get the carts instead for Wario Land 4, Metroid Fusion, Zelda Minish Cap and the like and play them on my DS Lite.

You're snubbing a freebie because it isn't perfec-- wait, it's Waveboy. I'm wasting my breath.

Well, it's just like how every Nintendo console is available on the Wii (except for the GameCube in some cases).

So, I compared the 3DS image to my GBA SP, which is the "brighter" model with a true backlight instead of that weird front-light from earlier models.

Result? With the GBA SP in its lower brightness setting (it only has 2), the colors, luminosity, and overall appearance are almost exactly the same on the 3DS. I looked back and forth and couldn't find any differences whatsoever.

Here's are the crappy comparison shots made using my DSi: GBA SP on top, 3DS on bottom

Untitled

They look even more similar than the images portray, as the focus sharpness of the DSi camera wasn't equivalent with the larger screen size of the GBA (I had the 3DS in non-scaled mode).

Now, if you put the GBA SP into its brighter mode, it still matches the colors exactly but does have a significant boost in luminosity; it's as if the 3DS has one more brightness setting beyond its current top setting.

Anyhow, the comparison convinced me that the games on the 3DS look almost perfectly identical to the last GBA model. The only thing that probably throws everyone off is that it doesn't do the "enhanced" look that the DS Lite gave these games, but you know the VC: retro accuracy seems to trump all else.

Twitter is a good place to throw your nonsense.

Nice comparison shots. I wish I had some of the old cartridges, just to compare them myself, but your pics do look extremely close.

Well, even though the screen looks darker, I prefer playing these games on my 3DS, which is much brighter than my DS Phat or GBA Original. And I like how big the picture is too. I never minded how the Gameboy games looked like on the 3DS, either.

Besides, if you plug in the charger while playing, the GBA games look a lot brighter.
