I already have G&W Gallery 4, but obviously can't play it on the 3DS.

In all honesty, it'd be neat to see them continue the Game & Watch galleries on the 3DSWares.

Y'know, instead of just re-releasing the original LCD games on the DSiWare. I know they're a good piece of history, but these days the old repetitive gameplay might not work so well.

I never played the Gameboy versions but I seem to remember owning one of the actual Nintendo handheld LCD games
I think it was Donkey Kong JR. This was back when my mom couldn't afford the Nes so she'd buy me those Tiger electronic handhelds instead. I had one called Karate King that I played alot as well as a version of Double Dragon 2.
Those were the days.

So was the Gameboy version good?

The Gameboy versions provide the "classic" versions, which are the original LEDs, and updated versions which are graphically updated to Gameboy standards and feature classic Mario characters. The updated versions also feature fluid movement, rather than the step-by-step kind of vibe of the LED originals.

The Dsiware versions of those Game & Watch things are exactly the same as the originals right?
I might get DK Jr just for a laugh.

I think they should at least bring these classics to DSiWare. I'd say the aspect ratio of the screens fits these titles better than the GB's. I wouldn't mind a collection / collections and as 3DS Ware they could benefit from the 3D making them look a bit more authentic. If they would add some achievements it would be a really great way to celebrate these games.

So how much is there to this Game & watch Gameboy game?
Is it something I'll play one time and never touch again? It doesn't look like a very long game.
Still not sure If It's worth it.

Yeah, i'd say the DSiWare games aim for an exact reproduction of the original games.
The games are as "long" as you're willing to play them. There's no goal except to reach for the highest score you can possibly get. I mean there are no stages so it's basically doing the same thing over and over again (with randomly created patterns though). And keep in mind that there are no online leaderboards or achievements (as far is i know).

Oh, the goal is to get 1000 points in each mode of each game - you get a star for every 200 points, so five stars. Any higher than that and you're just trying to beat your personal best.

Game & Watch Gallery 1 has four games in it: Manhole, Fire, Octopus and Oil Panic. I think there was an unlockable fifth game (Ball), but I'm not 100% sure. Anyway, all games have Classic and Modern modes. Classic is a simulation of the original G&W handhelds, starring Mr. Game & Watch, and with the minimalist blips, bloops and all. The modern mode adds a fresh coat of new art and puts Mario and his pals in the starring roles, and also adds a couple of new gameplay mechanics, plus some catchy background music. The goal is to get at least 1000 points in every game & mode, which earns you a staff roll if I recall correctly. It's pretty fun, and at just U$S 3 you can't go wrong.

I have all four Game and Watch Gallery games (hey, I'm a big fan). The original has some of my favorites, but the subsequent games improved drastically. I think this one had an unlockable or two, but the sequels had a lot more. I still haven't unlocked all the stuff on 3 and 4. The unlockables give you incentive to try and beat your old high score to get more stars.

I just got around 950 points in Fire classic mode twice in a row... I would be pissed off if it weren't for the nostalgia attached to such failures.

If you never experience the series before,
Game & Watch Gallery is a collection of "sequence of rescue" games that defines what the Game & Watch series are.

Still I can't justify spending a whoppin'(lol) $3 on this. I never found these games particulary that interesting or fun growing up aside from the appealing kick character art, the bleeps and bloops and the funky golden retro hand helds themselves.

If it was just the retro versions, you'd have a point. But the four modern versions are entertaining and worth $3. Give it a try.
