I had no idea the sega games had already been listed as coming soon in the eShop!
I was checking this one, it is a RPG.
Has anyone played it before? It looks interesting!

Now that this game is out in the states, I'm wondering what your impressions of the game are. Would this topic be the "impressions" topic?

Even if it's short, $2.99 isn't a bad deal.

I'm waiting for the review, but also interested in seeing what others think about it.

Watching a video, it looks like a very simplistic RPG. And not in a good way.

Still, its probably better than some GB games for the same cost.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

I have this on Master System haven't played it in years found it difficult but enjoyable definitely never beat the game don't think I even came close to be honest, never played any game quite like it though some seem to say its rouge like never played rouge so can't confirm that, feels like a 7/10 game to me but nostalgia may play a big part in that might get this on VC too down the line Shinobi is what I'll be going for first though.

That's pretty much what it is.

I had the original cart for this game. From what I remember, it is a rogue-like much like Shiren the Wanderer or Mystery Dungeon type games. Floors are randomly generated and obscured by the fog of war. Item effects are random each time you play the game. Along the way, you find better equipment and a variety of spellbooks and magic canes that also have randomized effects. Like other rogue-likes, whenever you take a step, so do your enemies...and you attack by pushing toward your enemies instead of having a dedicated attack button.

When you start, you'll notice that you're followed by a mysterious egg... it eventually hatches into a dragon...the dragon eventually gains the ability to shoot projectiles if I remember correctly. I remember being very disappointed by this game as a kid, but have grown to like those types of games...perhaps I wouldn't have had such an issue had I the opportunity to actually beat the game... That's right, I never beat it as a kid because six batteries never lasted long enough for me to get through the game.

If you're a fan of rogue-likes, I think it's a worthwhile purchase for the price. I plan on picking it up and I don't think I'll run into the same battery issues on the 3DS that I had with the Game Gear. One thing about the game that I know for sure is the music definitely sticks with you...while I write this post, I keep hearing the soundtrack loop in my head and it's been...what...about 20 years since I last played this?

Anyways, if you like rogue-likes, I'd definitely recommend it.

I downloaded it!

It's pretty fun, it's a lot like pokemon mystery dungeon, but harder!
If you die, you can revive if you have enough money, you keep your sword and armor, but everything else is lost.
I have no idea what the dragon is for but it keeps growing with you.

My first game ended in the second floor, the game put me right in the middle of two new very strong monsters and I was helpless.
On my second round I reached level 20 but died several times. Luckily I created a restore point at floor 14. I'll try again from there.

It's interesting how you need to find out what every item does, like, if YELLOW BOOK does X trick, any future yellow book you find will instead be called X BOOK.

Also, the emulation options Sega included are much better than the ones included with every other single VC game, you can even make the image blurry as if it was an old screen. Worth every peso. I really recommend it if you like the genre.

A $3 RPG? SEGA blew me away. Once again SEGA does what Nintendon't

Make crappy games and take away the "good" ones? I wholeheartedly agree

Wow the last 5 levels are BRUTAL. I had to load the save state like 50 times to beat the game.
Seriously!
The enemies there can destroy your weapon, eat your food and lower you level!
And the last two levels are filled with dragons!
I'll try to beat the game honestly next time.

My dragon grew up to be a gray dragon by the time I beat the game, but I still have no idea what it is for!

SPOILERY TIPS:
Save one or two Travel rods (to skip the harder levels), Drain rods (to beat the dragons) and a Wind book (to reach the last goblet quickly) for the last few levels, they're pretty much the only way to beat the game.

Yeah, good luck with that.

Honestly, I have a hard time believing anyone ever beat this game legit on the Game Gear back in the day...well, unless they had purchased an AC adapter along with it too, so I guess it is possible.

If you want further challenge, it's not enough to beat the game without using save states...try beating it under 2 hours (it is anecdotal, but I feel I'm being generous btw).
