God do I love theses games, first game that I ever played was Donkey Kong Land, though still find them to be extremely tough. I am halfway through the first game. Big thanks to Nintendo for theses awesome releases, bring on Donkey Kong Country GBC next !!!

Are they worth getting? I was interested in DKC, but it's on Wii U, and although I have it I LOVE having my games to go. So is Donkey Kong Land 1-3 worth getting? Bit skeptical about the graphics. I know they're not everything but I like the DKC graphics alot more, much easier on the eyes.

@xPH03N1Xx86 I would only recommend the first game as a curiosity or for its soundtrack. The controls have odd quirks to them (mainly with bouncing on enemies as well as the rolling attack), overall not feeling as fluid as in Country. The level design is not great. It is certainly interesting to see what the revamped Donkey Kong's first portable excursion is like, though. It's a weird one.

I haven't played the other two.

As BearHunger said, the controls sometimes are hard to grasp but after a while you get the hang of it. The graphics can causes some troubles since enemies tend to "melt" with the background and also since the gameplay is restrain to the Game Boy screen it caused you to slow off the pace of the game. Overall, if you are a fan of DKC, I would recommend the games.

Get them. I have heard that the first one is almost perfect. Personally, I think that the second one is the best. I have also heard a lot others say that DKL2 is the best as well. The music is so beautiful. Not to mention Stickerbrush Symphony!

For DKL2, you might as well buy it. It was rated about the same, but it isn't mentioned as much as the other two games. I have played the DKC2 remake on the GBA, and it was alright. I can't really judge the game too much since I got embarrassingly stuck on this one boss fight by a waterfall that I have never been able to beat. Now I could get my revenge! Overall, they are all really fun and memorable. I remember those games better than any other franchise from Game Boy to GBA. (possibly with the exception of Pokemon)

I am a big fan of the DKL games but I definitively prefer DKC over DKL myself. I am very glad they released them. I was shocked to get all 6 of the games in one week though.

I think these would be near impossible to play on an original GB but are fine on a 3DS.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

In the first game, the graphics had too much detail it made them hard to see on an original (green) Game Boy, but I'm sure it would be fine on a 3DS.
However, the graphics in the latter two games were toned down, probably as a result of the above.

I noticed many SNES-to-GB games tend to use the graphics straight off the SNES version- just in shades of grey instead of the usual colors. Since you only had those four shades of the same color, you could have complex textures with them everywhere.

Of course, that makes them rather hard to see on the blurry monochrome screen.

I got all the three donkey kong land games on 3ds virtual console and I say that one is different that the other two
Donkey Kong Land review has a lot going on in the back ground and slower player and fast moving enemies so it is a nice challenge for everyone
Donkey Kong Land 2 review a lot faster and less stuff going on in the back ground see the enemies coming and a lot more in the game different than the first
Donkey Kong Land 3 review continues form the fast game play and enemies cleaner and easier to see from 2 with more detail on the map and more detail in the background the best out of three it looks like it was made like later game boy color games like lufia the legend returns in detail.
so I say buy all three if you can if you can a must buy for any 3ds owner and any virtual console collector
all priced for 3.99 and all of them or for 11.99

Yeah, I think the first one is the best as it does its own thing rather than shamelessly trying to copy the SNES equivalent like the later two games do.

I'd say this is a game-specific thread. Unless there's other, newer, DK land thread we can redirect to.

Although what Octane said is true. You revived the thread specifically to continue a line of discussion that ended one year ago, and that is the problem. Please refrain from doing that.
