DK on the 3DS VC was my first time playing this great game. Challenging, fun, and addictive! This is the first game IN A LONG TIME that I've beaten and picked right back up and started over again. (I'm already back to world 3! Woot!)

Does anyone else know this trick on 2-3?

Untitled

At the start of the stage, immediately put the ladder in the gap where the barrier comes down before it comes down. Then just walk over to the door. Easy.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

This game is awesome and very addicting. I've gotten to 8-6 in around 3 play sessions. I'd say it's the best GameBoy game available on the Virtual Console so far.

Also, Anyone else notice that the release date the American eShop posts for this game is incorrect. It's listed as 06/1981, but the game was actually released in 1994. I'm haven't checked, but I think they got it mixed up with the Arcade game.

Donkey Kong GB is such a brilliant little awesome & addicting experience. :D
I'm at 5-2 currently, and I'm even enjoying it a smidge more compared to when i went head to head with Link's Awakening.
Hands down my favorite title so far on the 3DS's VC. B-) The level of genious, brilliant level design, amazing controls and animations are just Flinstone flawless. It makes SML 1 & 2 look pretty B-grade in comparison.

My only complaint is that it's not in color and you seem to get way too many Lives. :p

I guess modern Mario games giving you tons of extra lives isn't such a recent trend after all

Well the trend definitly didn't start on the NES that's for sure. SMB, SMB2 and SMB3 made you work hard to get a 1-Up and they were much rarer to find. All of these 1-up that you get in modern mario is ridiculous....Makes going to the mushroom houses and yadah yadah feel completely pointless, plus you'll never see the game over screen and lose your level progression during the world that you're currently in. These are the things i loathed about NSMBWii, great game aside. :)

It could of been a perfect 10, a great throwback to the mold of the old, but it got casualised and baby-easy regarding the zillions of 1-ups that you got. C'mon Nintendo, atleast place it under a different mode for the gamers who don't like a challenge....Maybe call it the "Super Ultra Luigy Easy 1-UP Pasta Party!" lol :p

The power suites were also in full force as well, which were again handed out too often. Thanks Nintendo, for the insane 1-Up and Power Suite abuse. ;) :p That aside, sure it's lacking in creativity but i look at it as a user-friendly(from an Art-design persepctive) minimal throwback to SMB1 and 3.
After all, 'galaxy' is rocking the imagination and creativity in spades, so we have that for 'that'. B-)

Is there any difference between this and Mario Vs. Donkey Kong? They look like the same game to me.

Even with all of the great publicity I'd heard about Donkey Kong '94, I was still on the fence about getting it. But now that I've actually played it (thanks to Club Nintendo), I finally see what all the fuss has been about. It's a very impressive puzzle-platformer.

Walk on the disappearing blocks to destroy them, once they all are gone DK falls down.

However could gamers in 1981 complete this game without the help of internet forums?

got it through club nintendo. Looking good. My first VC title for 3DS. Still not sure if I prefer the small screen with gameboy border, in green or in black.

Didn't beat it in 1981, but I was able to beat this without the internet. :P

Gaming before the Internet age was rough. They did have those Nintendo counselors you could call up, but I forget how much that cost per minute, and I never did it myself.
