I know that Super Mario Bros. 3 is coming very soon, but you know how random games get put up on the eshop? Well what if they put the original Mario Bros for NES up one week before the SMB3 comes out? It would make more hype, and plus, Japan already has this game on 3DS VC and we already have it on Wii U VC, so why not?

I am not interested in NES Mario Bros. (Or Donkey Kong or Popeye). I would get the Arcade versions though.

Try playing SMB3 in 2 player mode. You can play a version of the original mario bros if you land mario and luigi on the same spot on the map.

Yes it is similar, but the main focus of doing that in SMB3 is to steal each other's cards.

The question is will Nintendo allow download play for Super Mario Bros 3 or not. I suspect 2 player will need 2 copies or just not be allowed.

Honestly I would get Mario Bros on my 3DS VC. With the auto save feature and restore points this is a perfect game to pick up and play on the go especially when I am on break at work. Hopefully it will come to the VC don't see why it wouldn't.

It came out in Japan over half a year ago... and to be honest, the American Virtual Console is still at the equivalent of Japan's Virtual Console from January with the exception of SMB3. I really hope that we get Double Dragon soon...

Most of us do... Actually, most of us have Super Mario Advance 4. However, wouldn't it be nice to play it whenever you want when you don't have a GBA in your pocket? It's more convenient to have a downloaded copy on your 3DS so you wouldn't have to take your GBA, bring the SMA3, and walk out playing that sole game. I don't know, maybe it's just me. I have more than 20 Virtual Console games so I'm used it.

It's not my favorite game ever, so I probably wouldn't buy it... and I already have Super Mario Advance, so I can always play that if I want...

There's a Street Fighter game on the Wii's VC that has online play added in.

It's not impossible.

As far as I know that was from the Sega download service so the game itself already had the code in it. (Just had to be added to the emulator). Forget the name of it but it was the service that Megaman : The Wily Wars was on.

I didn't have Genesis back in the day, so it's not first-hand knowledge but I don't think Sega Channel had online mulitplayer.
Online gameplay on the Genesis (and SNES) only came from a licensed third-party service called Xband, which supported online only through individual game patches developed by the Xband team. (I don't know if any Genesis games had support built-in, I know of only two SNES games that had native Xband support programmed into the game by the original developers: Doom and WeaponLord.)
