I couldn't find a thread or a search tool for the forum, so I hope i'm not duplicating threads.

Anybody else download this? I was pleasantly surprised when they announced this was coming to the European eShop this week, in all it's 60hz glory. The music is awesome. It's more responsive than i'm used to and it's perfect for a late night retro session.

Still haven't completed this one yet and i'm not sure if I want to use save states.

You don't need to worry about 50Hz games on the 3DS VC - even in Europe.
Castlevania is an awesome classic, and unlike Metroid has actually aged very well.
I'm running through it without save states at the moment and enjoying it greatly. :3

I make Pixel Art on occasion.

I could never get past the third level in the original Castlevania, so I don't think I'd spring for it. Plus, the small screen might make timing the jumps even harder D:

always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)

I'm disappointed that North America hasn't gotten it yet, but oh well, I know that we get stuff before other countries do so its all even. You would think that they would make all games avaliable at the same time.

I have played this game so many times already, i should really let it rest for a couple of years.
But i guess it 's just like mega man games. I can play this game over and over again and still enjoy it.

Went back to the game recently and managed to finish it all without restore points. >:3
I look forward to the third despite it having some ridiculous boss battles...

lol, Castlevania. Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse will always be a better entry. But when it comes to music... Catlevania is always the winner! Bring out the legendary whip, Mr. Belmont!

My wish came true! Just after I casually played the GBA port of Castlevania yesterday, it's finally been released here in the US!

You know out of all the Castlevania games I have played I have never played this one, I was introduced to the series with Castlevania III. I might pick this one up later on down the road since right now I have Mirror of Fate and Harmony of Dissonance that I am playing through.

To blessed to be stressed.
80's music makes me feel fabulous.
I miss Japanese games, the good stuff... Games that are imaginative, have good and unique gameplay, a great soundtrack, and replay value.

The music is just legendary on this one! The 1st one I played out of the series and a real treat for those who can appreciate a challenge.

In ways, I actually prefer Castlevania over III: Dracula's Curse because it's easier to get into, the challenge isn't quite as steep and the journey isn't 3x as long. :p I'd say it's top dog in terms of being the utlimate 'pick up and play' of the franchise, along with The Adventure: ReBirth! Maybe one of these days Konami will get with it and base a future TraditionalVania on none other than Simon Belmont from Captain N: The Game master haha.

It would still be better than that new silly 3DS Castlevania game which is a total disgrace to the franchise... II: Simon's Quest is an utter MASTERPIECE in comparison.

This is my first time playing Castlevania. It's actually pretty fun, but my God is it insane! I have played many hard platformers (Mega Man, Super Meat Boy, etc.), but this game is relentless once you make it to the fourth level. I'm on the fifth level, and I'm able to get through it now without much trouble after lots of dying...except for Death. Either this is one of the most difficult (or cheap) bosses I've ever encountered, or I'm doing something wrong. And mind you, no restore points for me.

Wow I missed this response lol. Well I heard of the Castlevania games but the only one I had access to was Castlevania III at the time which my best friend owned. The rental store I went to never carried Castlevania or Simon's Quest either that or they were always rented out. So as a result I never played the first two games.

No, you're right — he is crazy difficult, especially considering the hallway leading up to him where it's exceedingly hard — but not impossible — to get through without taking damage. I remember when we were playing this back in the glory days that we considered the Death fight harder than Dracula. Drac's level is pretty rough, and Dracula himself isn't easy by any stretch, but once you can figure out a good pattern of attack, he's not too difficult to kill.

As for Death, hopefully you'll have a subweapon when getting to him — Boomerang (ideally double-shot or triple shot) is best, but Axe works well too because of where he tends to be positioned in respect to Simon. During the fight, it might be helpful if you try and destroy any blade-projectiles near you, as they will often make killing him exceedingly hard.

She-Ra is awesome. If you believe otherwise, you are clearly wrong. Also, Lindsey Stirling. Because violin awesomeness.

I actually beat Castlevania for the first time pretty recently (thanks to @Ryno for the tips). It was a fantastic game and I think it has the perfect amount of challenge where it isn't impossibly hard, but it does require you to memorize enemy patterns and be very precise in your movements. I have to agree with @Wavey though, I do prefer it over Castlevania III. It's just a better pick up and play game and it's a tad easier as well.

Also, if you want to talk about anything else Castlevania, check out this thread even though it's been dead for a while.
