Is 3D Out Run good? Is it similar to 3D Super Hang-On or a very different experience? I bought the latter, and while it was fun and I liked it, I thought it was very short for the price.

In light if the announcement of Marin as HWL DLC, I will recommend Link's Awakening. If you have not played this before and are a Zelda fan, I think this one is the best handheld Zelda out there, and pretty unique compared to the rest of the series in various ways, especially the setting itself, and various references to other series such as Mario and even Sim City has one. While they usually sounds a bit odd for a Zelda game, I think they pull it off great with this game, without really taking you out of it. Personally, this may even be my favorite 2D Zelda, coming from someone who has beat them all except Ages (stopped about half way).

It's really good - I don't have Hang-On, but 3D Out Run is arguably the best racing game on 3DS. The 3D effect is hypnotic and there are plenty of options to keep you playing. If you haven't gotten it by now, I heartily recommend it. Even now, with an extensive backlog, I will play it now and then.

My top recommendation would be Earthbound.

I didn't 'get' Earthbound when I first got it free for Wii U - I didn't get very far when I got killed and quickly lost interest. I have a lot of other games to play. At the urging of other people, and because of spectacular reviews, I decided to give Earthbound another shot and bought it full price on N3DS. Now, having played it a few minutes at a time most evenings before turning out the lights to bed, I have to say that Earthbound really IS as special as fans have been saying all these years... yes, I understand why it is so cherished and adored by so many. It hit me how special the game is when I defeated the giant mole boss with just 4 HP and 2 PP left, despite grinding up my character. I now think it's a must-play experience, even for the modern day gamer. You'll probably like it, and if not, at least you can say you played Earthbound before being all judgmental about this game. The game just grows on you and gets its hooks into you as you play. I've no doubt people will enjoy the charm and enjoy the creativity in the scenarios and towns you visit.

I also recommend Link to the Past as well as Super Metroid.

I recommend Donkey Kong (Game Boy sequel, not the classic one). Mario has so many different acrobatic moves in this game and the level design is simply amazing. It also has a lot of levels, about a hundred I think. It's quite different from the standard 2D Mario game (this one is more like a platformer with puzzle combination), so if you are searching for a game like that get Super Mario Land 2: 6 golden coins instead. Watch some gameplay on youtube before buying to see what I mean, but do yourself a favour and give the game a try if you are searching for something new.

Shinobi 3. With 3D added to the classic game, this game looks even more beautiful. Also, I would recommend using the expert ninja control scheme since it was made specially for the 3DS and it lets you control the character better. You can walk, sprint, crouch, guard, throw kunais, do melee attacks, use different powers, jump, do wall jumps to climb and throw aerial kicks. It's a really fun game and in my opinion, it's the best ninja game you can get in the portable and it has an amazing soundtrack.

Gargoyle's quest 2. Great prequel to Demon's Crest, has a great soundtrack and quite good graphics for a NES title. It has some light RPG elements but the platformer gameplay is where it shines.

Megaman Xtreme 2. If you want a portable experience of the megaman X series this is it. Unlike the first one, this one lets you play as Zero too, however the saber feels too short so it was a bit underwhelming. Playing as X feels fine though.

Link's Awakening DX. To be honest, I'm not that much of a Zelda fan, specially the 2D ones. I've played most of them and even finished some, but Wind Waker is the only one I've really enjoyed a lot. However, I'm able to recognize great games even when they aren't my cup of tea and this game, despite how old it is, has so much detail it's almost impossible not to be charmed by it. The game is quite fun (I enjoy it way more than A Link to the Past) and a most buy for Zelda fans.

Wario Land 3 is currently a My Nintendo reward (40 gold points); it's an extremely enjoyable game I'd recommend to any fan of platformers.

I doubt posting suggestion here will influence much, but I would love to see more SEGA games.

I'd love nothing more than the Genesis version of something like Toki on the 3DS Virtual Console.

I could go on all day about the stuff I'd like in the NES/SNES libraries too, but I digress.

All of the Legend of Zelda games - but Zelda II is very glitchy I've found
Metroid II (Metroid from the NES is surprisingly bad - passwords - really?)
Shining Force Sword of Hajya

What glitches have you experienced in Zelda II? I haven't had any issues, myself.

So, I know Switch is a thing, but these are my personal hopes:

Virtual Console:
Super Mario RPG (SNES)
Early FE Games (These were confirmed for JP audiences, but nowhere else)
Chrono Trigger
Ports of all the FF games
Secret of Mana
GBA VC as a whole
Pokemon G/S/C
Arcade, Turbografx16, Genesis, and all the cool ones Wii had besides n64

Indie Stuff:
Super Meat Boy
TBoI: Afterbirth (I know this is practically impossible, but I can dream)

Might be some stuff I forgot, but that's pretty much everything I want.

(Metroid from the NES is surprisingly bad - passwords - really?)

Well it was on the NES. Zelda was the first game to have save files on the NES and I believe Metroid is the same age or older. Besides with save states, a game having passwords doesn't make it bad.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Actually, the famicom version of Metroid allowed saving. No idea why they removed it in the NES version.

Currently playing "Wario Land 3" (GBC) and totally agree with @Fiyaball. That said, "Wario Land" (GB) and "Super Mario Bros. 3" (NES) are pretty solid and platforming at its best.

Turns out the Pokemon Trading Card Game GBC is still fun even though the card game itself has advanced so much in the past 20+ years. Plenty of challenge and strategy despite only dealing with the original card series.

Hang on to your youthful enthusiasms - you'll be able to use them better when you're older.

Donkey Kong 94
Game and Watch Gallery 3
Mole Mania
Pokemon Crystal
Mario Tennis
Wario Land 3
Super Metroid
Earthbound
Donkey Kong Country 1, 2 & 3

Retro gaming is too damn expensive.

retroman64

was looking through the Virtual Console to see If I could preserve anything, and I saw Pokemon TGC for the Gameboy Color, I'm just worried I'll suck at the game because trading card games were always too complicated for me, does this game streamline it in anyway? Will I feel right at home if my only experience with Pokemon are the regular games?

Anyone else have anything to add here? We're getting closer to the eshop closing and I need to make some additions. I really want to expand my virtual console collection and wish it was a thing on the switch.
