I don't think this is a sequel. It sounds more like a reimagining of ALttP.

As cool as this sounds, I'm still holding out hope that they'll one day re-release the original ALttP as a 3D Classic.

This looks fantastic. The e-shop video just pushed it up to the top of my 3DS wish list.

This was a livestream. Why would they show a trailer in the middle of it? Most people just want the news that a new Zelda is being developed. The actual reveal doesn't really matter.

They already revealed that they were developing a new title for the 3DS. Like, ages ago. It was the last game shown, so they could have easily shown an epic trailer and after that told that it's out 2013, what their goal is with the game etc. You know, let the game do the talking.

Zelda is the kinda game that should attract "core" gamers. I mean, Marios (2D) sell like hotcakes, but Zelda games ought to lure those more hardcore gamers who are on the edge whether they should buy 3DS or not. The kinda epic adventure that people can't get on any other platform. A game that generates hype and excitement.

I don't have any sort of nostalgic link to Alttp, so the trailer should get me excited on its own merits. It didn't achieve that. To be blunt, initially I thought it was an Eshop game.

It's not a remake. It's a brand new game in the same world so it could technically be a prequel or a sequel.

It'll probably be a sequel, though. Probably a bridge between A Link To The Past and Link's Awakening.

I don't get why some of you can't like both the 2D and 3D equally. All the games in the series are amazing (except for the CD-i ones for obvious reasons), so why prefer one over the other?

Anyway, this looks great. One of my most favorite in the series is getting a sequel? Yes please! Can't wait to get this off the e-Shop when I finally get a 3DS.

Because they're completely different styles of games.

You make me sick, sir. You're talking as if the sequel to one of the greatest games to ever grace this earth is not enough to warrant excitement, that the hardcore would never touch a game of this magnitude. That 2D Zelda games are incapapble of epic adventures.

Well I'm sorry to have to be the one to tell you this, but you're wrong on all counts. Dead wrong.

...I'm exaggerating on all things except the latter, btw. That said, never underestimate the power of Nostalgia, and A Link to the Past really is one of the most epic Zelda games there is, 2D or 3D. It certainly exceeds OoT and Skyward Sword in terms of scale and the feeling of a big world.

I fear for the length of the game. After, many recent 3DS entries in familiar franchise feel, thus far, lacking in length and perhaps even difficulty.

MAJOR EDIT:

Where would this fit on the Zelda Timeline?

For those familiar, Hyrule fell after A Link to the Past which in turn led to the "wasteland" of Zelda I and Zelda II. How can a game be set right after ALttP, especially since the Master Sword really is forever gone in this branch of the timeline?

Also, if I am correct, I believe the Triforce of Courage was lost during this timeline. After the Hero of Time fell, the 3rd Triforce faded into legend only to be reassembled in Zelda II.

I don't mean that it is a remake.

I think this will me kind of like Evil Dead 2 in relation Evil Dead 1, if that reference makes sense. Not exactly a remake, not exactly a sequel, but somewhere in between.

I wanted to like this, A LOT.
But am I the only one who finds the graphic design totally unappealing? I don't know, to me it seems there's something off, or wrong :/

I don't love the visuals, but I think with polish and time, I'll either get used to it or it'll get better; or both

Anyways, I'm really excited that this is happening. I always imagined Nintendo would eventually bring back 2D Zelda, with the success that the New Super Mario Bros. series has had.

Can't wait to see what ideas they come up with for this one.
