Yeah the 80s wasn't loaded with penny pinching cheapskates when it came to doing nice stuff for consumers to net them in. In the case of Zelda you had the extra sheets that came with the game, and as mentioned you could get full maps for quest 1 and 2 of the title. Lots of stuff in the 80s and through the SNES 90s would give you a LOT of stuff, still some in the later 90s too like those super packages of junk you would get with some games like Lunar. Now though, they're even cheaping out and getting read of manuals (see MK or latest Madden on HD systems.) The only way it seems now to get an extra if it's not digital is to pay for it, which kind of defeats the point of extras.

oh yeah, i remember that lunar game ! soundtrack, postermsticker, deluxe box, full color big manual, its all in !
and it wasnt a special preorder edition.

zelda came with a GOLD cart, a huge printed map, a huge full color manual with every info, nearly a player guide. How disapointed i was with Ocarina of time packaging. it wasnt a manual, it was a a folded sheet of paper. even the box was cheaply made, with holes in it to be cost effective.
on another note, you can say its a better thing for our earth.
again, i still have my old zelda manual, which isnt in a dump somewhere.

i remember that Legend of Zelda, Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask all had gold cartridges 9or at least the n64 cartridges wereprobably painted or something unlike the NES casrtridges). But yea, 3D doesn't.

@ Stereoman
The silent grannys are basically the potion shops. Yoo have to find a note to give to them and they will make life potions.
The blue candle can only be used once per screen. You have to go back off the current screen and return to use it everytime.
The red candle can be used over and over without leaving the screen you're on.

oh thanks for the quick answer Link79 !

Huh i already played zelda1 back in the day when they release the special zelda Dvd for the windwaker package.
But somehow i never managed to actually complete zelda1 ! I think on the GC version i got stuck on not finding level 7 but already finding level 8. Huh that was annoying as hell.
Im lucky i only finished level5 yet on my 3Ds. Lol

im at the final dungeon, fourth run and yet didnt managed to find enough keys to unlock every doors. i guess ill have to buy 2 or 3...
there are some useless locked door, beware.
i cant find is the red ring. i have the old booklet and that seems the only item i didnt find.
i stay far from the internet, because zelda 1 isnt the same when you have all informations readily available. it has to keep the shroud of mistery. but...i really cant find it !!! a spoiler free clue anyone ?

Papa_Godzilla

Eel

The red ring is in look below AKA very late in the game if i remember correctly.

First of all, you should have picked up the magic key from Level 8. That thing will unlock an unlimited number of doors. You shouldn't be buying keys.

Second, bomb walls!

i didnt get the magic key !! i thought i explored everything ! thanks for the tip, probably will save me tons of time, and make my game more complete !

LordTendoboy

Wouldn't it be nice if Nintendo made a new Zelda game where you had to explore everything on your own? Just plop you in the middle of a field and say "find your own way". Instead, they made every Zelda game since A Link to the Past this hand-holding quest where you are told where to go and what to do, and they are so linear.

I thought Zelda was supposed to be about exploration? What better way to explore your surroundings than to be completely lost?

hi fellow hylians,

oh gosh i made it to the same spot 5 years ago when i first tryed to beat zelda1 !!!
I exactly finished Level7 and got the "look at nose tip" notice from the old man.
Again i found Level9 where u already need all triforce parts !!!
So my final question where the heck is level8 ???
Oh could u give me a hint like the old man would say ? I really tryed to find it lol. Is it in woods , mountains or sea ?
Grrr Level8 is really hardest part to find since the other zeldas. Never been in a spot like this before-.- (oh actually yes 5 years ago ...)

anyone got help? hints please, not too much spoiler if possible?

cheers

If you're at a screen with bushes and you haven't found any secrets there, try burning each and every bush. A lot of them have hidden staircases underneath.

Pretty sure the manual tells you the candle can burn bushes, so this is something you should've already been experimenting with (especially after getting the red candle), and thus found the dungeon eventually.

I beat this game for the first time lots of fun I dont think I will play the 2nd quest.

Lifes like a game there are those who are good at it and those who need some practice.

yay
thanks faron and link79 !
Now i finished zelda1 on normal mode. But honestly i can say that i could have never finished it without your tip for the cunning level8 !!!
Huh that spot was really weird, now i know what that phrase from the 80ties really meant : 'search the pixel quest' .
Overall the game was fun, but that secret for level8 was badly designed in my opinion, i mean really i even was able to finish metroid normally without maps or hints but not zelda1 ? oO wtf ...

So guys N gals what you think is it worth to start second quest in zelda1 ? I noticed shooting skellys in first dungeon, but what about the bosses? Usually you just needed one shot for bosses in normal mode. Are they harder in the second quest ?

Ps: does zelda2 have a second quest too ? cant remember that one ...

cheers

Honestly? The location of Level 8 is ridiculously obvious. It's a tree that so blatantly stands out.

Also, what bosses are "one shot" in the first quest? Answer = None.

And yes, the 2nd Quest is worth playing, assuming you like Zelda. Zelda II does not have a 2nd quest, but you can start a new game with whatever skill-level progress you've made (so it's kinda like a "New Game +" mode).

The Shpydarloggery
She-Ra is awesome. If you believe otherwise, you are clearly wrong.
Urban Champion is GLORIOUS.
