Why does it NEED online multiplayer? Be happy it is free! It cost nothing! No money involved!

Not to mention most NES multiplayer games don't have both players interacting... There are exceptions of course like side scrolling beat'em ups such as Contra, Double Dragon and Battle Toads to name a few. Not to mention sports games...

  • We better be getting a Megaman AND a Castlevania in the free releases.
  • MGS for the NES would be a great one too. Toss in Blaster Master and Gauntlet too.
  • I want to see some Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest games included in the free releases but I doubt they'll do that because they know how much money they can make off those...
  • The announced GBA game titles seem much stronger collectively than the NES offerings

The 10 games shown so far are all either 1st or 2nd party. I don't think we'll be seeing Megaman, Castlevania or MGS. As for the Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest....I'm actually not sure would they really sell more than the mario games? (that they're giving away for free)

As for your third point, completely agree. I'm hoping the remaining 10 NES games have some more meat on their bones. Donkey Kong Jr, Ice Climbers and Balloon Fight seem like you'd spend at best an afternoon playing around with them and then be done.

I'm hoping for Pokemon Emerald, Wario Land 4 and Fire Emblem (or advance wars except I have the first one) to appear. Also games I've played but wouldn't be unhappy if they were included like Golden Sun or Mario & Luigi.

Out of the 10 games announced, I only own Mario Kart: Super Circuit.

***UPDATE***

An email from a Nintendo representative has seemingly revealed two more GBA games that early adopters of the Nintendo 3DS will be able to download for free before the end of the year. The games listed are:

Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3
Kirby & the Amazing Mirror

Source: http://nintendo3dsblog.com/nintendo-reveals-two-new-free-gba-...

So that brings the known free Ambassador GBA games to seven:

  • Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3
  • Mario Kart: Super Circuit
  • Metroid Fusion
  • WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$
  • Mario vs. Donkey Kong
  • Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3
  • Kirby & the Amazing Mirror

Toss in Zelda Four Swords coming free in September and we're in for a huge quantity of free great GBA games.

There's not a bad game in that list, it's almost kind of worth it to buy a 3DS at this price before it goes down.

Zelda II: Adventure of Link

No buzz for these additional two announced? Wow, looking over the GBA titles so far all that's missing is Zelda from the main figure heads. With Four Swords coming out in September they may not go to release Minish Cap BUT seeing how they've been releasing virtually every Zelda under the sun this year it's still in play I guess. Beyond that, come on Fire Emblem and Super Mario World.

My first reaction was "Yes! Finally!"
My reaction when I learned that I would be able to get 20 of those games for free was silent. After my head exploded from the awesome news, I couldn't talk.

I'm back (for the moment)!

Toss in Mario & Luigi, as it's worth over 9000 games and a helluva fun to play.

It's a conspiracy, I tell you.

Super Mario Bros. 3 was probably a mistake. Kirby is probably not, though, and all I can say is they definitely picked the best Kirby to give us.:)

On hearing the news a few days ago, I went out and bought a 3DS.

It might have ben a bit impulsive, but I was attracted mainly by the GBA games. So far, there isn't a dud among them. The NES games on the other hand seem pretty dull to me.

Furthermore, I was able to buy a 3DS for £199 with Zelda OOT, and since the RRP in Britain is £249, I doubt the price cut will be as significant as the US prices (which will always be much lower than in Britain), but I doubt you'll really notice the price cut here.

At most, they'll probably be retailing at £169.

Further confirmation: http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/27322

On the one hand, aw hecks yeah. KatAM is far and away my favorite Kirby game, and had the series continued in this direction it would be my favorite 2D platforming series (yes, better than Mario).

On the other, I already own SMB3 in three different forms, one of which is SMA4. If the e-Reader levels are included it will be the best of the 20 free eShop games, if not it will be the least of them (all imo of course).

I can understand none of the 20 free games being third party, but I hope Nintendo will quickly bring in more games like Castlevania and Mega Man for NES, and Boulder Dash EX for GBA. I haven't touched most of those GBA games in the list, so I'm happy about that. And, this would be the perfect time for Nintendo to finally release Mother 3 (although I doubt it). I also hope Nintendo works in local multiplayer for NES and GBA titles via download play. I hate how some of the Wii VC games lose features like the ghost system in MK64 and the password system in Kid Icarus.

Hopefully we'll still get Kirby for GBA. I dunno about SMA3 though. I'd like them to utilize the GBA's original library more, not the MASSIVE REMAKE/PORT library. How about giving us the awesome Wario Land 4? That game rocked (though I preferred WL2) and would do the GBA library more justice than all the ports they released for quick cash at the time.

I'd also like them to give us a quirky game or two. How about Kuru Kuru Kururin?

Maybe the lack of the Super FX chip is the reason the GBA version is easier to emulate.
I've heard talk about the Wii not being able to emulate that feature
and that's why no games with that chip have come to Wii VC.

That can't be right. PC emulators have been able to do the Super FX chip for at least the last 5 years. It'd be a bit disturbing if Nintendo can't emulate their own chip while people coding emulators as a hobby can crack it...

JDT wrote:

I'm so happy about this! The games are much more worth then €/$/£80! I hope that Superstar Sega and the Minish Cap will come... that's all i hope for GBA.

To play the devil's advocate, what worth are you assigning to the games? It costs Nintendo next to nothing to supply you with these games. They would have to code an emulator which could probably be done in a week (there's plenty of freely-available GBA emulators around, Nintendo could even just download one of those and distribute it!), but the games are already coded so Nintendo just has to distribute the ROMs.

I understand that to buy them at retail would cost quite a lot, but I'm a bit cynical about the cost of VC games - for the vast majority of games very little work is required (pretty much just dumping a ROM), but we are still charged through the nose.

I'm happy to pay more for WiiWare and DSiWare etc. as original development has gone into those, but I really think VC games should be more like $2 than the $5-10 we're currently playing.

I used to have a blog link here. I'll put it back up when the blog has something to read.
