I'll tell you one thought I have.
Why is it possible to get Yoshi's Island on 3DS VC
but the game is still somehow missing from the Wii VC?
Does not compute. :(

No idea. I love that game on the original and even more on GBA. Be glad it's coming. And for free!

Oh, and I must say, these GBA games would have cost $10, I'm very very sure. So, we're getting $100 worth of free games plus $50 worth of NES games for free. Yeah, the price drop doesn't bug me at all.

I never bought the GBA version of Yoshi's Island. Are there any extras added to it that weren't in the Snes version?

I have a feeling that GBA games might actually be $12. Dunno why.

Each world has an extra bonus level that isn't in the SNES version, and the sound effects are more consistent with other Yoshi games. Also, it doesn't use the Super FX chip. :P

Edit: And since it's a SMA game, it includes Mario Bros.

Ah so besides the normal extra stages on Snes Yoshi's Island there's another one in each world?
Maybe the lack of the Super FX chip is the reason the GBA version is easier to emulate.
I've heard talk about the Wii not being able to emulate that feature
and that's why no games with that chip have come to Wii VC.
At least that's the theory anyway.

Surely it'd be for those 'premium' GBA games such as Final Fantasy and Mario & Luigi. I wouldn't doubt they would be priced like that :/

@Link79

Well, I think that theory is closer to the truth than one would think. Star Fox hasn't made it to VC. For some reason, I think that Yoshi's Island was released in Japan's VC... Not sure.

yeah. these are nintendo titles only.

after all, its nintendo's fault for overpricing. they gotta cope with this by giving us their products :-p
seriously, theyre awesome to at least give us this huge pack of games.

other nintendo brand games... duck hunt ? i can feel we will have baseball / tennis.
cluclu land ? wrecking crew? kungfu ? cobra triangle ? metroid ! punch out ! rc proam, rad racer... popeye (!)
how about ice hockey or faxanadu. man so much new titles i would like to see...

my bet for new NES games: kung-fu, rcproam OR rad racer, ice hockey, and tetris. unsure for all the other ones

if they only give nintendo branded games of course.

If they gave me Earthbound Zero, I'd be overly and extremely ecstatic! Wario's Woods would be great too!

So no Dirt Trax FX? Ahhh... :(

The original Dragon Warrior(Quest) was published by Nintendo. Ditto for the original Final Fantasy.

Another game I'd like to see is Kirby's Adventure. Oh, and Star Tropics.

Has anyone played Gyromite? That was such a fun game.

They're going to give us a multiplayer update for NES games, but they couldn't implement this for GB games, or do you suppose the GB games will also get an update later this year that finally allows us to video link? It looks ridiculous seeing the option for 2 players in GB games yet not being able to do so, and it's not a very good VC if it can't do what the original system could.

Actually, if I read everything right, GBA games on the VC will remain Ambassador exclusive. While I can't speak about the price, that may also make a difference.

Exactly.

They can't do that for long. Making them "exclusive" for a little while might spark the demand and allow them to charge more to non-ambassadors.

Does anyone ever really know what's going on in Nintendo's head? If they feel that rewarding loyal customers who are willing to put down a lot of money on one of their products is more important than overall profits, that's their problem, not ours. May they come eventually to non-Ambassadors? Perhaps, but that doesn't really apply to me since I will be an ambassador, so I really don't care.

Exactly.

I think they'll probably do it. A few of the games on there could really use multiplayer.

I'm totally thrilled about this and was completely floored by this news this morning! The 5 GBA games currently revealed are just absolutely amazing and some of the best in the entire GBA catalog. The NES games are nice too. I've always wanted to try and get into the original Zelda but didn't have 5 dollars worth of confidence in it. Now I get it free! :D Oh, and I have heard a few people STILL whining because "these are old games." Big deal. Firstly, they're free so who cares anyway. Plus even if one were to own every single game being given in their original form, its still a plus to have everything piled into one cosole. That's the reason why I bought TONS of Wii VC games that I already owned. I would be far more inclined to play an SNES game if I can just boot it up on the Wii than if I have to get out my SNES and hook the thing up. Oh and not only did I see this news but in Nintendo Power I read that Layton and the Eternal Diva (The Professor Layton movie) is FINALLY coming to the US!!! So in short, its been quite a spectacular day for me :D

Sadly I already own most of the games they are giving away in some form.
Then again they're free so what the heck. Might as well take em.
Not a bad gift but especially great for those who don't own them.
20 games for nothing! Sweet deal!

Not to mention Yoshi's Island isn't on Wii's Virtual Console, and GBA games will be Ambassador-exclusive. (For a while, at least.)
