I would say that 60 percent of the time I play with 3D off on my XL, however, if I do put on 3D, I max out the slider, and drop the brightness down to 3 out of 5.....this helps to ease any eye strain on a high 3D setting, given the darker screen, and lessening the consumption of the battery compared to a 5 brightness.
I personally have the 3D turned off 99% of the time since I can't really see the 3D good except for 3D Classics. Hopefully the New 3DS can change my mind.
I generally play with it on the lowest possible setting. Might just be me, but I find that the colors look a bit better with the 3D turned on, especially in Mario Kart 7.
The only game that I play with the 3D completely off is Tales of the Abyss, simply because the 3D effect is absolutely horrible in that game.
My game library ranges from Mario Kart to Call of Duty to Tales of Xillia to Diablo 3 to Forza. To me gaming is about having fun - not blindly supporting only one company while thumbing your nose at "the evil other systems."

I actually agree, for whatever reason, when the 3D slider is on it's lowest 3D "on" setting, it tends to look crisper, less washed out, in comparison to 2D.
Off, I rarely use itdon't have 3D Land anymore (and I feel that game is impossible to play with it on, lol), while OoT 3D is 50/50 for me, depends on how I'm feeling. Sometimes it also gives me a headache, so, yeah.

Keep it PG-13-ish.
I have the 3D on 99% of the time. Having off only on games that don't need it, like Devil Survivor Overclocked or the Virtual Console. Usually I keep the slider about 75% of the way up. That's my sweet spot.
I LOVE the 3D and find it adds a ton of character to games that you can't get anywhere else. It actively pisses me off when I switch over to iPad or console games and I can't play them in 3D.
I leave my 3D off 99.9% of the time as well.. Too much eye strain for me. Ocassionally I turn it on to see something in 3d but other than that, I never use it on a regular basis or enough to miss it on a 2DS (only reason to have over a 2ds is the closing lid honestly..)
Plus it's harder to see things with the 3d on since everything is a little blurry (like on fighting games such as smash) and any glare from lighting which the 3ds IMO suffers more than any other handheld will make it extremely difficult to play anything. (Litteraly.. try playing a normal ds in the car.. and then a 3ds. Big difference, and this is with 3d turned off.)
Like many others, I keep my 3D options mostly turned off. It just hurts my eyes and in most games it is nothing special to be honest. I would probably pick 2ds instead if it's design wasn't so bad......
Sometimes I turn it on to see how the game looks like with the effect. I kind of like it in The Attack of Friday Monsters where only a few elements were 3D'ed, like bushes, trees, houses etc. and that indeed looked pretty cool.

3D slider all the way up, full brightness for the vast majority of the games. I have a battery pack on mine which gives me several hours of a charge without having to plug it in again, so I never worry about brightness.
I have never gotten a headache or anything from the 3D, even after hours of play. I'm glad I'm not affected by it like some are because I really enjoy the effect even years after release.
Some games have bad 3D so I'll turn it off, bad that's rare.
A person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs. It's jolted by every pebble on the road.

Exactly the same for me. I only use 3D to see how certain things look in 3D, other than that I leave it off (my eyezzz!11!). I agree about the 2DS, I would have grabbed one...if the design wasn't so darn awful.
I leave the 3D off outside of the increasingly rare attempts to give it a chance. Occasionally, it's worth it...it's usually not. Even the stuff that does it well, like ALBW, I've had little interest in using it for.
I actually left the 3D on in A Link Between Worlds recently because it makes it easier to tell when you can hit an enemy and stuff. I wish more 3D effects were used like that.
It's about 50/50. However, I've been playing in 3D all the time for the Smash Bros. demo. It's done incredibly well. I don't understand it, it just feels...natural.
Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
Now playing:
Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)
When I used the normal and XL models, I pretty much used it (on full) only for special moments in the games, like cutscenes or for "I bet this looks awesome in 3D" parts.
I always have the 3D on unless during the rare occasion where the game I'm playing has terrible 3D or no 3D, for example Pokemon X and Y or New Super Mario Bros 2.
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.
