Yoshi's New Island vs Yoshi's Island. Are these the same game or what?

In future try to be more careful and not make so many duplicate threads, for now I'll lock this one and leave this one up.......
Edit: Or just have it edited to the state of the most complete thread, I guess that works to. :/

Any advice for me and my new 3DS with what Yoshi's to pick up?

Well you can't get buy Yoshi's Island on the 3DS as it's an Ambassador game only so that's out which leaves Yoshi's New Island or Yoshi's Island DS. Yoshi's New Island is the 3DS entry which is very mediocre and Yoshi's Island DS is okay, has a few gimmicks of different babies but doesn't touch the first game's quality.

So get Yoshi's Woolly World and the orginal Yoshi's Island which are the best ones.

@jump: I've got Yoshi's Island on my WiiU from Nintendo Club. I also have Yoshi Wooly World. I haven't played either much but like them both. My game backlog is enormous though.

It looks like Yoshi's Island, Yoshi's Island DS, Yoshi's New Island 3DS are different games so I'll grab the DS version too, $8 couldn't hurt.

If you've got a backlog and other Yoshi games you haven't finished yet then maybe it's best not to buy either.
