I personally thought many new ideas from Yoshi's Island DS were good. Like the battle in freefall in world 5, the aforementioned museum or... some other stuff I guess.

Also, has anyone seen this on the official fact sheet?

Throughout the game, different worlds feature a variety of art styles, including oil, watercolor and crayon.

Seems like the art style from the screens won't be the only one...

After watching the trailer on the eShop with the 3D on, I feel a lot better about the artstyle. It looks great in 3D and obviously, it's not as blurry as the trailers make it out to be. I think it would be awesome if each world had a different art style, like one in pastel, one in watercolor, and so forth.

Graphically it looks pretty strong in my opinion, but it also looks pretty safe! The only new things I saw where the gigantic egg, and Kamek using a gigantic hammer to turn a baddie big instead of his magic wand! But we'll see!

The graphics style certainly wasn't a safe choice for this game.
And heck, for Artoon/Arzest, this game is surprisingly daring, considering how 'vanilla' much of Yoshi's Island DS was and how it seemingly just treated the first game like a bunch of steps to be followed exactly.

I hope this turns out great...I mean...I enjoyed DS...but...it was pretty much like what the "New" Mario games are going with. >.>

I love Erica (Strike Witches), Eureka (Eureka Seven), and Tenma (School Rumble), stay away from them. xD
Update: Also love Yukari and Mizore from Rosario + Vampire.

So this is made by ARTOON?! Oh, I can see it now that not many people will like it! Yoshi's island DS was also made by ARTOON, right? I liked it, it had actual difficulty, but I seem to be in the minority!

Well, made by ex Artoon staff especially, but yes it is.

And Yoshi's Island DS definitely had difficulty, although a lot of it was the unfair, near platform hell kind.

It does look cake like.... so does Yoshi's Island artstyle in general. I expect some 2.5 elements. The charatcer models are in the 3rd demension. Hopefully, the game can be at moments. :O

Looking at the Wikipedia page, they also made the Pinobee and Blinx games! Didn't know that!

I don't want to talk about Yoshi's New Island on this thread! This thread smells. Offense mode activated.

Anyway, I'd like to get this. I never played a Yoshi's Island game before and I'd like to start here... unless the SNES game comes for the 3DS VC. Apparently, not that many fans are excited. I kind of agree. If it wasn't for Baby Mario and Yoshi, I could have mistaken this for a third-party game.

I think people aren't as excited for this because it looks so familiar. I expect the more we see of the game, the more people will anticipate it. The fact that it's also made by the people behind Yoshi's Island DS might make some people hesitate, not that it was a bad game, but it was somewhat complex with the baby switching and was largely forgettable compared to the original Yoshi's Island.

I admit that I'm more excited for Yarn Yoshi, but I'm still optimistic this game will be all right.

I want this game to be good, but I'm not dumb enough to believe this will be even half as good as the original. It's really a shame that one of my favorite games of all time can't ever seem to get a worthwhile sequel.
