Quick question: i noticed the game checks off the stars, red coins, and flowers at the end of each level if you complete at least one of them. So if I get all red coins this try, I don't need to recollect them in my next try when attempting to get all stars and flowers to get a 100%?

Correct

Old, but someone on Youtube's been redoing the soundtrack with better instruments, making this game's songs actually sound pretty good:

It really is better than Arzest's music in my opinion. Just shows how much of a difference good instruments can make to the quality of a soundtrack.

So they're essentially the complete opposite of Good Feel games (admit it, you don't like Epic Yarn's soundtrack for the compositions themselves)

Is there any unlockables besides extra levels? Like baby luigi, wario or something?

Bought the game, good graphics, music is all right they could of added more. Might 100% the game, just wondering if it's a lil worth it in the end.

No matter how hard I try to like this game I just find it dull, it's not bad but it feels like a chore more than anything else. Such a shame since Yoshi's Island is one of my favourite games.

I feel the same, this game has charm but just seems a little dull and feels like it's pretty much the same game as yoshi's island, which isn't too much of a bad thing but I feel they didn't add enough new enemies. @arronishere I agree this game does feel like a chore, I mean that's good how there's extra unlockable levels, but is it worth it the end? Any unlockables like baby luigi, wario, ect?

I got this game as part of Best Buy's buy-one-get-one-free sale. Getting this game for free was going to be the absolute best time to get it, and I'm glad I did.

After playing through the first world, I feel this game is decent. Not fantastic, but not horrible either. In that sense, it's exactly what I expected it to be, a simple, relaxing platformer. The visuals are nice, even on my small 3DS. The gameplay feels fine although I felt the egg-throwing was a bit too slow, but then I found out in the options menu that I can switch it to move faster, so I did. The music remixes the main theme a lot, but to be fair, Yoshi's Story also remixed its main theme a lot. I still find the music relaxing and pleasant to the ears.

The two bad things about this game so far are the story and boss battles. The story is extremely similar to the first game, and as I raised up before, it tarnished the beautiful ending of the first game. While I know it's just the first world, I can tell the bosses are pathetically easy. I took my time fighting Kamek for the first time so I wouldn't easily beat him within a minute or two. Another potential downside I detected was the shortness of the levels, but that could still be because it was the first world. If I wasn't exploring the levels trying to collect flowers, stars, and red coins, then I would've breezed through them.

It's a challenge for a gamer who's played intense platformers like Donkey Kong Country to adjust to this one, but you have to if you want any enjoyment playing it. I'm seriously considering completing this game 100% so it can feel more fulfilling. So for my first impressions; I can see flaws, but I'm still enjoying this game a bit as a decent platformer. If you have any interest in Yoshi's New Island, I highly recommend you get this at a reduced price or for free instead of buying it at full price.

Just beat level 5-S. Haven't felt this hardcore for a long time.

Dunno how I feel.

I beat this game several days ago.

Overall

  • The visuals are nice and they get better the farther you get into the game
  • The game seemingly recommends you spend time exploring the level for flowers, red coins, and stars or else you will breeze right through it. Quite a few levels were like this and it was slightly disappointing since I'm not the type to explore every nook and cranny in a platformer.
  • The bosses are pathetically easy
  • The final boss battle is a joke. I guess it's better than the one in Yoshi's Story, but that's not saying much.
  • The music overall has too many remixes of the main theme, but some tracks are pretty relaxing. I could understand how the kazoos could irritate some people, though.

Yoshi's New Island isn't a terrible game, but it could have been a lot better. The first game still reigns supreme in the Yoshi series and I still like Yoshi's Story more than New Island. However, this game fulfilled my basic expectation for it; a simple, relaxing platformer to unwind with after playing much more intense games like Donkey Kong Country.

The first one sounds more like something you'd hear in a Christmas special than a yoshi game.

I tried the demo at Gamestop once, and I didn't know how to feel exactly. First of all, good Lord is Yoshi ugly. He's just hideous. Second, there's something about the controls that just doesn't feel right. They just don't feel as smooth as I'd like them to be. 3rd the music was...meh. The point is, I didn't hate it, but I wasn't exactly thrilled with the experience.

There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...

I know there's download play support for the minigames, but is it also possible to play the regular game with 2 people sharing 1 cartridge?

I don't it's possible to play the main game without the 2nd cartridge.
