This is why pre-ordering videogames is a bad idea.

Also trusting reviews to make your gaming decisions is a bad idea

That's hardly comparable. Of course, judging a purchase on one review is silly, but basing it on 2 or 3 from sources you know should give you a pretty good idea of how good the game is, and whether not it is for you. Pre-ordering a game means you're investing in their product when you have no idea how good it is. All you have to go on is their own marketing material.

Pre-ordering a game is't investing in it as pre-orders can be canceled. All pre-ordering does is let distributors know what stores to ship games to. I do agree it is bad to pre-order a game solely on hype but if you pre-order a game based on the information you have about the game then that isn't bad.

On Topic: So I got Yoshi's New Island today and played up to the first castle, not really that far into the game. It is defiantly a slower paced game than other platformers on the market. I am enjoying the slower pace and the exploration but I don't like the Hidden ? Clouds. I feel like it is a cheap way to make levels replayable and in fact if they weren't hidden, just placed in harder to reach areas, I might want to play it multiple times.

I bought it and played the first world and a few levels from the second. My first impression...it isn't that bad actually! Okay, it isn't edge of the seat or really essential! But it's a decent platform-game alright! Decent gameplay, decent music (though there isn't much variety), and decent graphics! I don't think it will come even close to Yoshi's island DS, but there are worse ways to kill some time!

In my case it would be investing in games. When I use to do pre-ordering from gamestop I pre-order a game & pay for it full right on the spot every time. I never cancelled my pre-order's because never saw no sense it. :)

I did stop pre-ordering games after a while mainly because it became tiring having to run out to the game store every time for a game now I download all my games unless left with no other choice but to buy cartridge. :)

Happy Gaming! (^_^)

I love this game. It's a lot prettier than it looks in screenshots and videos... it really looks good and it's fun.
The bad reviews are completely unfair.

Your not investing in the game because your money doesn't go into making the game, like Kickstarter. All you are doing is buying a game before it comes out and not being able to play it until it is released, which I am not against.

I've just completed it after 6 and a half hours. Literally the easiest game I've ever played in my life. I guess they were really aiming for the younger generation with this one. The final boss was utterly dire.

I'll give the game overall a 5/10, I was close to giving it a 6, but towards the end I got annoyed by how repetitive and uncreative the levels became.

I don't recommend anybody to buy it, unless you're loaded or you know you'll sell it on afterwards which is exactly what I'm planning to do. There's the odd enjoyable level which provides some platforming fun, but no, it's hard to recommend. Well, I'd say it's perfect for your littln's if you're struggling to think of a game to buy them.

Did you 100% the game? I probably spent over 30 minutes just trying to 100% 1-6 and still can't find everything lol. I feel a lot of the enjoyment of tge game comes from trying to 100% it... I do think the way the egg tokens work is broken. Makes it way too easy to unlock the secret levels

Nah I didn't 100% it, I just didn't enjoy the game enough to make the effort, plus I HATE the falling stars you have to get. They're annoyingly unpredictable to grab.

Yea I feel 100% is a big part of the game. If you just move through the story I bet ot will be pretty boring.I have put 3 hours into it making sure I 100% each level before moving on to the next and I am almost done with world 1 lol

I've played up to the start of World 2, and I honestly think it isn't too bad. It seems people are comparing it to the original on SNES a bit too much. Granted, it's easy and appropriate to compare the two, but I'd be willing to bet that if the one on SNES didn't exist the reviews would be a bit better.

After reading through this thread and the community on Miiverse, I've decided to get this game at some point, but not for a while; maybe when it gets cheaper.

Of course the reviews would then be better in that scenario, but that isn't the case. There is a 20 year old game that this game was based on, which is better. You can pick up the original used for a very low price. Why would one buy the new one at full retail price for an inferior version of the original game? It was lazy development, and its not worth supporting.

I make Pixel Art on occasion.

That doesn't help that Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island will be released on Wii U VC for at least $6 this April, which is obviously the remake of the SNES classic Yoshi's Island. Not only it's still a great game all around, but it's much cheaper to get it than purchasing Yoshi's New Island at full price.

A) It is still a fun game.
B) I don't have the money or time to hunt down a SNES or a copy of Yoshi's Island.
C) I like the fact it is portable.
D) I got Pokemon Y for free.

I do not understand that hate towards this game. It is a fun game, it just requires a certain mind set.

I'm not going to try and change your mind; the more someone does that the more the other person tends to cling strongly to their own beliefs.

I'll just say that I personally am not buying it because I don't like to support lazy business practice. I like Nintendo, and their games - but that doesn't mean that I'm just going to buy their sequel to one of my favourite games ever simply because they made it. Nintendo obviously didn't put much effort into the title, and side by side, all evidence points to the fact that the original is the better game. That's not much of a problem, as the original was an amazing game, and its difficult to live up to that, but since this new game changes almost nothing in terms of the game mechanics - there's no reason for me to want to play it; there's nothing new to experience.

The DS version of Yoshi's Island also suffered in the eyes of critics - it just wasn't anywhere close to being as good as the original. However I still bought that title to try it out because it dared to try and change and improve aspects of the original. Most of the ideas didn't work out - but some of the features were very fun, such as the museum. Yoshi's Touch & Go however was one of my favourite DS games. It took the original concept of Yoshi's Island and essentially made several really fun minigames around it (an example of changes to an original game that worked well in my eyes).

To everyone who hasn't already made up their mind, I would recommend picking up the GBA version (portable) of Yoshi's Island, or picking up Yoshi's Touch & Go for the DS. I'd even suggest getting Yoshi's Island DS before trying this title, but as I said - that's just my opinion.

That is Just like Super Princess Peach. For my experience it was never challenging. But it's a novelty game so I bought it. Young Newcomers would love it because it's simple with things to do. But while I like it, it was just for collection purposes after I beat it. I went back once and was bored beyond belief lol.

If this was the only yoshi platformer I would buy it. It's not. So better luck with your devs next time, Yosh.

It's really sad to say this, but I was right. This is nothing more than Nintendo trying to rip-off poor naive kids. I don't understand why Nintendo gives Yoshi such horrible treatment. It wouldn't take much to develop a Yoshi game that's appealing to kids AND is a worthy sequel to the original. But giving it to a developer that obviously isn't great at making games like this one is just ridiculous. I hope the game bombs to send Nintendo the message that Yoshi deserves much better than this.

I will buy this because I'm a Yoshi fan and want to personally see how the game is, but not at $40. When it gets to be $10-$20, then I'll bite.

I guess I am in the minority about this game. I am actually really enjoying this. It is also my first Yoshi game so maybe that is part of it. I think this game requires a different mind set then say the New Super Mario Bros series. Yoshi's New Island is much more about exploring and achieving 100%

I have to believe some of the old Artoon devs have blackmail on Iwata or something, that's the only explanation at this point.
