Chalk up another one to Waltzy being right. This looks great:

THEATRHYTHM FINAL FANTASY, the first music game in the FINAL FANTASY series, has been augmented with more songs and new playable characters to make it easier to dive into and play than ever before! Now it makes its debut as an iOS app that allows for communication with users from around the world in an unlimited adventure!

■With Quest Medleys, every time that you play, it's a new adventure! New enjoyment to be found in each game!
The iOS version of THEATRHYTHM FINAL FANTASY adds the Quest Medley mode, where you can play through songs you've purchased in a rhythmical gauntlet! Each quest is a set made up of a single FMS and a single BMS, and each time that you play, you will find yourself facing different songs, different levels of difficulties, and different rewards for completion—enjoy the thrill of a music game where the sense of adventure never fades! Being able to play on your iOS device by touching anywhere on the screen gives you more freedom as a player, as you operate the game with ease.

Music Stages in the iOS Version
・FMS (Field Music Stage)
Slide across the screen in undulating waves that rise and fall in time to the slower-paced songs in these stages.
・BMS (Battle Music Stage)
Flick and tap to the furious beat to hit the Triggers flowing before each character in these fast-paced songs.

■Leveling up your character hinges on clearing tough songs! What else could you expect from a FINAL FANTASY music game?
Each time that you play through a song, your characters will gain experience. This app makes it easier than ever to enjoy developing your characters, as you simply level them up and the abilities gained by doing so are automatically equipped to your characters to be triggered during the music stages. In addition to the three regular scores of differing levels—the Basic, Expert, and Ultimate scores—you'll gain a further three Illusive Scores for each song: arrangements of the regular scores with similarly varying levels of difficulty. Collect the shards of these Illusive Scores by clearing Quest Medleys and open up new adventures. Whether you are a novice or an experienced veteran, you'll be able to find a way to play that fits your level!

■Use Twitter to tell the world about the scores you create yourself and share them with players everywhere!
Players themselves can create their own original scores by trying their hand at the Compose Scores mode! Upload your scores onto the server, or download the scores made by other players around the world—it is the players themselves who make the challenges of this game beyond limit. When you link the app up to your Twitter account, you can Tweet not only about the results of your play but also announce the uploading of your original scores to the server. And who knows—you might even find some scores made by the developers and the creators among the original scores uploaded each day!

So you're trading off the Event scenes (sadface) for Twitter high score leaderboards and the like (brilliance).

Bet this doesn't cost $60 like the 3DS version.

Posting in 3DS forum because based on the news story, a lot of people were hoping for a sequel. And telling me that an iOS port is "impossible" and "won't happen."

Really? I thought a lot of people lost cconfidence in Square Enix after the TWEWY iOS port debacle

Read in Tinycartridge:

"The app is free to download with two songs (?One Winged Angel? and ?Zanarkand?), but then you?ll spend $0.99 on each song, $2.99 on each song bundle for the numbered Final Fantasy games, and $1.99 on each character. Buying all of the content will set you back around $150."

Gotta be kidding.

ReRave will always be the ultimate touchscreen rhythm game. Rhythm Heaven is close.

This game was basically designed for Smartphones with the control system. The fact it didn't end up there before or on the same day as 3DS is pretty surprising.

My main question is the song count and value. I got the 3DS version for $20, and I don't expect much of a tracklist for a 99 cent game, but I expect the DLC to be the same price, which is unfortunate considering I expect the starter pack to be 10 or less songs.

Screw you.

Wait, $150? Are you effing kidding me? This is why I hate freemium so damn much. It's either a demo with full content costing upwards of retail games, or it's a grind/overly difficult without DLC (moreso then Xbox games where you pay for weapons).

Meh, I still have the 3DS version, and I await an Android port of ReRave eagerly for some serious challenge.

Theatrhythm on the 3DS + all the DLC cost close a fortune too.

Well, I expected that.
Good on iOS users... But I'm unsure if you're getting a better deal or what?

You get 2 songs, and the rest each cost $1? Well, it sounds great for those that want to choose specifically what songs they want.
Smart play on SQEnix's part.

Yeah, people tend to forget that the reason microtransactions are the better way to do games like these is that people pay for what they actually want.

There's a load of content in Theatrhythm on the 3DS that I don't really care for. Characters I'm not a big fan of, songs I've only played once or twice etc etc.

Just did some quick maths.
At $40 dolars the 3DS version is a better deal for those that want everything, with over 70 songs included, and about 53 songs available via DLC.

iOS version is perfect for those that want to pick and choose, as it has 2(?) songs included for $0, and then $1 on everything else.

But either way, needing to buy extra characters wasn't the best decision.

Oh no, it was a brilliant decision. That game is going to pull in a FORTUNE on iOS.

The retail release comes with 78 songs for $40. Compared to the iOS version, I'm pretty sure that's a bargain. Around 52 DLC songs means the whole thing costs $92 for a total of 130 songs (I personally got my copy half-off, making it $72). Not exactly best bargain, but a hell of a lot better then buying those all for $128, especially the main game.

Downloading now. Can't wait to compare & contrast with 3DS game.

Who the heck would buy every song? There's a tonne of the original 78 songs I wouldn't pay $1 for.

The iOS is a far better platform for the "best of" then.

$40 + DLC is a lot less than $150

I wish you could buy custom packs. Like pick 10 or 15 songs and buy them in batches at a discount. Buying one at a time for a buck each... hell no I'm not doing that.

Oh well. FF4 should be awesome.

I loved the game to death. They continue to dissapoint, however, with these frivolous iOS outings. smh, Sqeenix, smh.

Let me rephrase: It wasn't the best decision on an integrity standpoint. But hey, you know, It's not like I'm the one trying to make money here.

So it is a freemium stripped down version of the previous game?

Eh I'm pretty happy with the 3DS version, it was cheap and I love all the songs included, plus the ones I downloaded... Event stages are beautiful and the controls work flawlessly (a stylus is better to flick around with than my finger)

I was hoping that this would be something new, but I guess this is good for any final fantasy fanatic without a 3DS.
