Lately I've been thinking about purchasing a 3DS. Regardless of anything and everything, I'll be buying one for the new Super Smash Bros. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of purchasing Resident Evil: Revelations (I didn't want to wait too long and have it end up as one of those good games that become nigh impossible to track down after a while), and now...I wanna play it. However, Nintendo has an amazing tendency to release a number of updated iterations of their handhelds, so my main question, for those more familiar with Ninty than I, is: what do you think the odds are that they'll come out with a newer 3DS, and when? I'd hate to buy one next week, then get burned with the announcement of a better one around E3.
Nobody knows. Maybe they'll release one more slim XL somehow. Who knows, but I wouldn't expect any significant changes that makes today's model obsolete.
Buy it, if you keep waiting youll ended up buying the 4DS, theres ALWAYS going to be something newer/better coming, but you just cant control that, like Honelith said, just buy it and if Nintendo ever announce a new one, just sell yours and get the new...
There is no way to tell if Nintendo is going to release another model as they don't have a set pattern. Yes they announced the XL a day or 2 after E3, (which was a pretty ***hole-ish move, considering they'd denied it a day earlier) but i can't honestly see them doing the same thing twice. Just bite the bullet and get one, or you'll forever be battling with yourself just because they 'may' release a new one a month or 2 after you buy one.
Well, Nintendo did say that they wouldn't be announcing new hardware at E3, but like @LunaticPandora said, they could pull another sneaky surprise right afterwards. Doubtful, but you never know.

I have an XL. I traded my 3DS, because the XL has larger screens, the 2 screens don't touch each other when closed anymore, and not forget to mention, the anti-mirroring glass (or how you call that) Buy & enjoy the best DS ever!
I do want a XL, but I won't be able to afford a Wii U for a while if I do get one. And when its a question between a new system and a revision of one I already have, its not really a question for me.

Making a 3DS XL made sense, Indknt see anymore upgraded handheld models this gen though.
Nintendo and Sony seem to have abandoned that way doing things and just releasing one great prouduct (Not counting XL). I don't think we will see a 3DS lite or PSvita 2000 this gen.
I don't think there will be a major change to the 3DS. If they haven't offered dual sticks by now it's not happening. And it's certainly not getting any bigger.
so you have a normal 3ds? just play the damn thing
Nope, no 3DS here. Just me and Revelations.
why did you buy the game if you dont have the hardware to play it???
Copy and pasted from my OP: I didn't want to wait too long and have it end up as one of those good games that become nigh impossible to track down after a while
For example, Metroid Prime: Hunters. I waited too long to buy it when I first got my DS, and by the time I wanted to, it was gone from stores. My Walmart across the street has already dropped Revelations, so I figured I should buy it.
Anyways, thanks to everyone for your input. I think I'll wait till a week or so after E3 (just to be safe) to buy it. Much appreciated, everyone!
