Now, I don't know if there's a thread out there already or what, but I was just playing Mario Kart 7 and got so rage induced that I made up this little list. Now keep in mind that Mario Kart 7 is my favorite game on the 3DS so far, if not my favorite game period, But this game definitely has its frustrating moments. So without further ado:
Things that annoy me during a Mario Kart 7 race.
When someone ahead of you steals your item. It's enough that they're ahead of you already and you're trying to get past them, but then they take your item and you get nothing, allowing them to get an even bigger advantage over you.
When you're in last (or next to last) and you get a blue shell as an item. It doesn't help you at all, since the one in first place is so far ahead of you that it doesn't make a difference. Everyone else is smart enough just to avoid it.
When you get thunder struck/shelled while over a bottomless pit. The absolute worst example of this is when you get shot off in a cannon like in Maple Treeway, or bouncing along in Mushroom Gorge; you're the only one in the air, and you fall from a blue shell or lightning. You have to start that part all over again, and half the race is ahead of you now.
When you get a string of items thrown at you at once. You're in first place, final lap, you can see the finish line... and then a red shell hits you. Then a blue one. Then a green one. Then you get hit by lightning. Then some douche drops a bob-omb right next to you so you go flying in the air, then when you hit the ground, a banana peel is waiting for you. Last place.
If you're a light character, like Toad or Lakitu, and some idiot who chose a heavy character knocks you off the track. The worst case is when it's right after you get hit by an item. You've stopped in your tracks, then some jumbo maniac crashes into you and sends you careening off a cliff.
When someone with a star knocks into you. You're driving, everythings fine, then you hear the starman tune. You make an effort to get out of the way, and you find that HE'S CHASING YOU! There's nothing you can do about it. The starman zooms off into the distance and you have to get back to speed. And get another defensive item.
When someone ahead of you is holding a red shell behind them. Or, better yet, they have three red shells circling them. You don't want to pass them, because they'll just clobber you. So what do you do? Nothing. Just wait for them to use 'em up, which could never happen if they're in a good spot.
When someone ahead of you has just finished a race, and they drop like four banana peels all over the place just before the finish line. What's the point of that? They've already won the race, and now they just want to screw everyone else over.
When someone pulls off a glitch or an unintended shortcut, and everyone else follows suit. I just want to have a real race; is that too much to ask for? Yes it is, because winning is everything. You might as well throw the game away if you can't win.
When someone in first place slows down when a blue shell is thrown. They back up right into you and now you BOTH GET BLOWN UP! Isn't that dandy. If a blue shell is thown, just grow a pair and take it like a man.
If you're trying to pull off a difficult power slide right next to a bottomless pit AND A JUMBO MANIAC CRASHES INTO YOU FROM THE OTHER SIDE, causing you to fall off the track. I just friggin' hate those heavy characters.
When someone drops a banana right behind an item box, or a coin. It's also pretty annoying when they drop one right before a blue ramp, or... even just a regular ramp. It's also hard to avoid a bunch of bananas that everyone drops in the same place, like at a difficult turn. It's like the rest of the race track is clean and everything, but this one spot has tons of bananas and you're like what.
When the whole race is in one big cluster, and you're right in the middle of it. You're getting hammered to death, but the person in first is so far ahead; nothing's bothering him and nothing's getting in his way, because the rest of the race are beating themselves up in one big mobile rush hour. You'll never want a bob-omb more than now.
You know what? Bob-ombs themselves are annoying. I can never aim one very well, and most of the time, if I thow one, I miss my target and run into it myself. Now whenever I get one, I just drop it behind me, regardless if there's anyone back there or not. Even if there is someone behind you though, it'll rarely hit them. Also, if I remember correctly, it doesn't count as a defensive item. If something hits you while you're holding a bob-omb, it blows you up.
When there's a shortcut that someone takes and it gives them an edge over you, but when you try it, it slows you down! My favorite example of this is the blue ramp in DK Jungle, the one that allows you to fly over the other ramps you'd otherwise have to take to get over the bottomless pit. You know the one I'm talking about? Right, well, whenever I try to take it, I always fall down that pit. I can never fly over it. I don't know what my problem is, but I always just skip it. There's also that one in Music Park, where you have to hop on the drum, located right before the finish line. I always either fall down the bottomless pit, or run right into the grass afterwards. Either way, I can't use it to my advantage.
Well, I suppose since this is a thread, and since I probably forgot about some, add your own gripes about this game. Again, I do love this game and I'll love it even more when the patch in Maka Wuhu gets released, but for now tell me what you think of the list and add some frustrations of your own.
The fact that the admittedly cool gliding and underwater parts didn't make up for not having Mission Mode (...again) or losing the underrated and hilariously whined about chaotic overdone nonsense of the Wii title without making the game any less cheap or rubberband AI.

This sounds familiar. I feel your pain. The luck in this game kills me. It's fun for mutliplayer but aggravating in one player. I hate when I know I'm the best one on the track and then things like what you mentioned happens to me, and I don't get the stars, or trophies I deserve

Sounds like you need to play a different racing game then.Pretty much all the things you listed are what makes MK so fun, unpredictable and awesome imo.
For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. [url=http://www.backloggery.com/jumpmad]Unive...
The only way to play Mario Kart is not to win and just laugh at the chaos. Otherwise it frustrates the crap outta me. I like playing MKWii locally, but every MK game since the original (and Super Circuit) has been a giant luckfest.
Bland modern track design that is just embarrassing compared to the classic tracks, and a poor selection of classic tracks.
Other than Dino Dino Jungle and the N64 tracks nothing else was worth mentioning. Not even the normal tracks which were awful. (Yes even Retro's design was mediocre). Nintendo also threw in three tracks from the same cup from MKWii and Coconut Mall. There were much better tracks than those like Moon View Highway for example or even Daisy Circuit.

Yeah, and even the original had some terribly frustrating tracks.
