Topic: With two Wii U Titles coming to the 3DS, do you think Nintendo is trying to...

...Make more people who haven't played the Wii U versions, buy and enjoy the 3DS versions and whatnot? And do you think they will? And should this trend continue with Bayonetta 1 and 2? Should Bayonetta 1 and 2 come to the Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo Code-Name "NX?"

I really hope the Code-Name NX is not a sandwich oven.

Yeah, the 3DS re-releases are obviously a result of poor WiiU sales. The best example is probably SSB4 which had the 3DS version sell 7.41M while the WiiU version "only" sold 5M. Porting these WiiU games to the 3DS is probably relatively cheap and considering they may sell more than their WiiU counterparts it should be well worth it.

I think the 3DS ports are a combination of poor Wii U sales and them existing making porting to NX easier. The NX does need to be able to play games on the TV and by itself when not connected to the dock after all (I'm going by the Eurogamer leaks).

They can port every single game they've ever made to the 3DS if they want, I don't mind.

But when they start adding exclusive content to the 3DS version, a la what it seems like they're doing with Yoshi's Woolly World, it really bites if you already supported the original version.

You kind of expect those sort of tactics between rival hardware companies, but it seems pretty twisted to do that to your own customers.

I've found myself repeatedly contemplating recently how little it seems Nintendo tries to reward customers who support them.

If that's how they want to play it, fine, but I won't be feeling any sense of loyalty towards NX. It's going to have to earn my interest.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

Was going to create a post about my thoughts on this and then saw your article so thought that I would just say what I have to say here instead.

If the NX is, as widely rumoured, a very powerful handheld system, I have a feeling that it may be able to act as upgrade Gamepad for the Wii U.
Imagine, by choosing to put the NX into Gamepad mode and use to play your Wii U, it will act exactly like a Gamepad but support a higher resolution.
This would keep the Wii U relevant in some sense, without having to release new games etc.
Also, if the NX is to use flash cartridges, why not design them in line with the current 3DS carts and allow for 3ds games to be played.
I know this is all very far fetched, but I think the Wii U idea would be great

I just think they need sales, and Wii U hurt their bottom line so they're porting a few excellently crafted games to a much larger audience where they can sell in line with what they deserve.

I think the absence of online in MM is so that Wii U owners don't feel like they're losing what is undeniably one of the Wii U's few "killer apps". Sure, 3DS owners now get the game but, guess what, you need a Wii U to upload levels and share online. You need a Wii U to play it in HD. You need a Wii U to gain access to the additional content for 40-50 amiibo. So Wii U owners still have a reason to own it, and definitely have something 3DS owners never will.

As for Yoshi, well, the game just won't be the same in sub-HD. The game's art style and aesthetics are one if its biggest appeals. It'll still be a great game but, it's just not the same without those HD graphics where you can see the little fuzzes sticking off the yarn. The extra content will most likely be patched into the Wii U version anyways and even if it's not, it's most likely trivial to begin with. We'll see how it plays out.

You can't really blame them for porting a few games. I mean, they tried admirably and despite the incredibly poor sales, gave Wii U an exclusive library that bests even the Wii's span of exclusives. That's not a bad deal given the sales. Now, if they start pillaging the entire library then it's a different story, but I don't think that'll happen. I think NX will maybe get a port of Splatoon and Smash (which was already on 3DS anyways) and that's where it'll end. But we should want those games on NX. That's where the player base will migrate to so it'll keep the online alive and active.

I think that Wii U development has shifted over to NX, so Nintendo needs to fill in the gaps with something. Ports/remakes are a bit easier since they mostly don't need the concept stage.

They skip a couple other stages, too. I'd imagine it'd be great training for new hires, as well...

I think they'll port the less intensive games on the Wii U to the 3DS, with graphical downgrades of course.

But I doubt they'll port more intensive games like Bayo 2 (which has many moments that it is too intensive even for Wii U) or XCX. Pokken Tournament is probably discarded, too.

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Now playing: Okami HD, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Not unless they pull out the voodoo wizardry they used on SSB 3D...

You know what, I'm putting this in my signature until the NX is offically revealed. Because for all we know, it really could be a sandwhich oven. Nintendo has not confirmed one way or the other...
