So I was deciding on whether to buy the Animal Crossing HHD 3DS bundle this week after seeing lots of unboxing videos. Personally, I'm not an AC fan at all, not even New Leaf was that enjoyable for me. However, I love handhelds and I think they are awesome to collect, use and display. With all the rumours of the NX being both console and handheld, I got to thinking whether this 3DS generation could be the last true handheld for a while, if ever? After all, smart phone games are on the way from the big N.

As I watched unboxing video after unboxing video someone finally mentioned something that I had glossed over. The guy in the video mentioned that the instruction manual was for the New 3DS XL system and not the regular one. I went back and watched all the other videos and it was the same thing. It got me wondering why Nintendo would do this and the only reasonable conclusion I can draw is this: NOA didn't want to release the standard system because of the poor sales in other regions and the success of the XL version in the Americas. However, they wanted to boost the sale of a SO-SO game and decided, on a whim, to run a limited amount of systems for this game. If they were serious about launching the system into the market, wouldn't they actually make manuals for it? One manual is a mistake, thousands of manuals is a choice. A choice to save money and make a quick buck. I promptly bought the AC bundle from Best Buy.ca. I clearly just overpaid for a 3DS system and if it launches at Xmas, I will have mud on my face. OR, I just snagged a rare system that I can buy plates for and play all of my games on.

What do you guys think? Am I reading too much into the manual or will the 3DS launch as a stand alone system?
