I think they won't, but they might, so everyone, post your comments.

Not immediately, that's for sure. They always keep their obsolete systems going a little while after the new ones come out.

I agree with you Rift, Nintendo usually keeps its handhelds going for a little bit longer, the ds was released in 2004, but gameboy advance was still supported up until 2006 or 2007.

In terms of how any console maker will decide whether to keep making a console after a new console comes out, it all depends on if the previous console will continue to sell, which (for the most part) is going to be based on how well the console sold when it was the current thing. EX: The PS2 is STILL being made. Why? Because people are still buying it. Because it was so popular. Gamecube on the other hand? Regardless of your personal thoughts on the console, not so much. Now Nintendo usually continues its handhelds for a while, due to the fact that they're always so popular. So, the DS will probably continue to be made after the 3DS comes out for a while.

No. Nintendo always comes up with the great ideas, and have so much more to offer. Why would they stop?

Probably not. They didn't stop production of the Game Boy Advance SP when the Nintendo DS first came out! In fact, they made one with a brighter screen AND a Game Boy Micro! I'm not sure if they will make any more improvements on the current DSs when the 3DS comes out, but I don't think they will stop making them!

It'll be a few years at least; longer if the 3DS flops (which i highly doubt). I also wouldn't be surprised to see one more revision of the DS (as they did with GBA via the Micro) before support dries up completely.
She-Ra is awesome. If you believe otherwise, you are clearly wrong.
Lindsey Stirling is as awesome as She-Ra. Perhaps even more so.

Considering, they didn't when the dsi came out, and the dsi and dsi xl just got a price drop i doubt it, people still buy dsis they're not going to stop for a more expensive handheld device, who would ask that question?

They might stop making the DS Lite, DSi and the DSi XL but they will sell the rest of them of course and then stop. And then Nintendo might keep selling the DSi and DSi XL. I doubt Nintendo will not stop the DSi and DSi XL because its newer but I think they end the DS Lite. I guess we will have to wait and see.

The dsi and dsiXL price cuts make me believe they will be kept around for a while.

As somebody who worked in the manufacturing industry, my assumption is they will run production of the old products until the parts for the old products are used up, and they will continue production needed until all the factories and subsidiaries install the infrastructure to only run production of the the new hardware.
Also most manufactures (by law, I think) are required to run production on a product for 1 year (for the purpose of having replacement parts to accommodate manufacturer warranties) after the production cycle ends. I don't know all the ins and outs, and little details but that's my experience, I worked for factory owned by a Japanese company so I assume Nintendo follows the same business model as far as the actual manufacturing of a product goes.
Also it depends on retail outlets too, as long as stores continue to make orders for products, factories will continue to manufacture them. I assume retail outlets will stop ordering DSi and XLs once they get their first shipment of 3DSs and just try to sell out their inventory to make room for the 3DS and games. Which is good for the consumer because retail outlets will put sales on the old hardware, which means between now and the release date of the 3DS will be a good time to pick up any DS games you haven't purchased yet real cheap, if you prefere new games.

But What I've watched and read Iwata will still sell DS games for half a year and the DS game will be able to run on the 3DS but it won't be 3D.

Well, of course. Were you expecting them to reprogram every DS game in existence just so they would have the 3D effect? Even if that were possible, they didn't make all the GBA games use both of the DS's screens, so why would they do it for the 3DS?

Actually they might keep the DSi, we will never know, they might start updating the firmware on the DSI since there are games that are coming out that might use a video chat function....Would be nice if they developed a video cam app, which I hope records about 10 minutes on DSi.
