You problem may simply be the securityaettingon your router. If it is a WPA2 setting then it will simply not work with the DS's online. It works with the 3DS but that won't allow you to play DS games online on the same connection.

A very common problem with connection to routers with the DS is compatibility. Your problem may be due to its incompatibility with the security settings of your router in particular.

When you try to connect with your DS, if it's a security setting problem, you will see a grey padlock next to the found connection after you're done searching. If not, then you should try contacting Nintendo.

Not unless you downgrade your security settings. It would be easier for you to find a free Wifi hotspot to use for your DS games.

Unfortunately not with your current router.

I hear that "DSi enhanced" DS games support a WPA2 connection, though. So, if you do manage to come across one of those (you'll be able to tell from the number label of the cartridge - if it starts with TWL, it's DSi enhanced), you'll be able to play online with your router.
